197 is bigger, therefore better no?
Drove up to my 197 before in the works van. I fitted some new satin Black speedlines over the weekend, damn it looked well, all squat and perposeful. Has presence the MK2 can only dream of tbh
;)
Loved the cup, always has a special place in my heart, but i love the 197, the box, the seating position, the less gruff engine. All round better package really! (just wish it was White ;))
Thats because most people on here have 172/182's.... they vote for their own cars
Now, i've had a 172 Cup, and had my 197 for a year now. There is no difference, the 197 is not slow as you put it. In fact just going by book times the 197 has a quicker 0-62mph time...... Also i out dragged a...
It'll need a polish in week or so to bring up the shine. PC ftw!!!
I apply 3 pretty heavy coats of lacquer, leave it a week or two, then light wet sand with say some 2000 grit, then use some Menzerna Intensive Polish with a PC
There isnt one. The ratios are closely stacked, they altered 6th so it was a wee bit longer. Were talking a few rpm. Listening to some forum gheys its compleatly different box and the old one is rubbish. Makes no difference in real world. My take is my(older) car is faster with the shorter...
I had to cut off 10mm from centre section my Magnex fitted to the cup a few years ago!!! Hacksaw ftw!!!
Fitted 100% better then!!! Later banging on the rear beam!!
Its all a ballache imo. I did two 197 alloys last year.

But for all the effort you put in, they still dont have that factory look finish. You can get them dipped/basted repaired, and powdercoated for £40 a corner. No brainer imo!!!
Yep. Its funny though, because without the Red calipers and Anthricite wheels, they look plain as hell...... In dull british weather theres nothing about them. There are some fantastic pics of Nimbus from our oversea's chums
Hav heard of the odd damper failure on some 197's. No where near as bad as the mk2's though........
Cant comment on mine really as i'm running coilovers
