Not entirely sure, but I am always of the opinions Diesels have more to go wrong and cost more to fix when they do.
The 130i is on the whole reliable but the N52 engine in it does have a very few catastrophic failures reported lol! There are 3x 130i's in my family though.
And, no, the likely...
That looks great but I think it's priced a tad to high to compete with the Audi and Merc fast estates. At 50k it sneaks in underneath them, but I think if you can afford to spend that much on an estate you'd probably stretch to the extra 10k for the premium brand.
Man maths... but there is still only about 65 quid per month difference - assuming you buy both w/ 12m T&T and assuming nothing goes wrong with the diesel as well.
130i
Purchase - £7500
OP does 15K/year @ 32mpg = £3,000 petrol
Total spend - £10,500
Resale of £6,000
Net Spend = £4,500

Nice new car in your profile ;)
I heard this one comes with 300% boost from a 0.6L engine and instead of flappy paddles there is a monkey in the glove box who pops out to change gear for you when you need.
Excited in a completely different way from heel and toeing and rev matching every shift like I watched grinning like a cheshire cat on your youtube channel before I bought my 182 though. I knew it had to be the car for me and your driver involvement confirmed that.
Samesies :o Geek = Love...
My departing thought for the morning - Something that struck a chord in the Evo review (I know preaching to the converted again, blah blah blah).
"If you - as I - regard driving as a skill, then it's not unreasonable to believe that cars that erode the need for such hard-won knowledge and...
Yep, and the 3 door looked better :rasp:
To clarify that point, I don't think CS will buy the majority at all. I know business and profitability has to take priority and mass appeal is what pays the bills.
On the topic of DSG boxes, the new 991 GT3 is paddle only apparently. The first time...
I've just explained that above with my silly thought process, Mark.
To clarify, I did't pop back in to intentionally rub anyone up the wrong way in here. Just my viewpoint on the subject. And I'd still recommend the Evo review I referred to earlier, it's an interesting read.
I realised as I wrote it might come across like that. It's a multitude of things that brings me to that conclusion though.
The 3 door thing is just a particular bugbear due to this preconception I have that hot hatches are for youngsters, youngsters shouldn't need practicality, as such the...
The sad truth. I won't try and defend that.
If I was in a position to I would.
I just think it's sad that it looks like to get your NA, driver focused 3 door kicks, in future - you'll need to buy a coupe (2 door) rather than a practical hatch.
Renault was bucking the trend with the 200 by...
I've just had a realisation and I know exactly what's wrong with it.
I don't think renaultsport did want it to be a five door. It was the suits at Renault hq that did. And that's the whole point. Practicality and appealing to the masses has been given priority over everything else, and that is...
No I completely agree and i assure you i'm not missing the point at all.
They will sell in their hundreds to the masses who give less of a sh*t about driving than me. I realise I am in the complete minority when I say driving enjoyment is my number one priority when purchasing a car.
Just my...
I would almost argue the larger hatches can get away with it slightly more.
The only one I can think of that I don't mind in 5 door is the original 1 series.
I prefer the looks of the 3 door on - golf, Megane, Clio, focus, fiesta, polo, Ibiza, a1, a3, Astra, corsa. In fact, just about every...
Sports cars should not have 5 doors. Fact.
I don't care if the hot hatch is mr practical's mid life crisis dad who can still get the kids in the back.
There's a reason they've never made a 5 door RS before and that's because they look sh*t.
Even with my shocking 10 minute photoshop (worse than beetle-man's) attempt... I deserve a job with Renault's design dept.
Before anyone asks - yes it could be neater, no I didn't try, yes I did it on the quick at work, yes I still prefer it to the 5door and yes is suffers from the mk2 door...
Obviously. Why buy a 1m when you can have a mint e46 m3 for under 10k these days duh?!
Think about all the used cars you could buy if no one bought new ones!! .... Oh wait.
I like the rear end now, but I can't get over the 5 door only and that horrid diamond on the front. The rear is Megane esque IMO
Eta - can someone handy with photoshop remove whatever is on the bottom of the sill and make it three door by extending the front one by about 6-8 inches (the white...
