P&A Wood - amazing place. I had a tour of the workshops a few back and there’s a separate engine build room for Merlin aero engines. They also look after the Silver Ghost AX 201 - probably one of the most famous motors in the world 👌
Tidying up jobs continue. Upper grille painted - 4 coats of paint and 2 of satin lacquer. Overkill but worked last time as only a few chips. Looks pretty too.
Garage floor painted and proper sort out of all the s**t that gathers without knowing how it got there. Second coat of paint later this...
Treated myself to a decent light - and a third of the price of a Scangrip. Replaced my Resurrection - my go to correction compound.
Also bought a tripod for the light from eBay.
Ordered a Shinemate 803 kit, some more Eraser and a pile of masking tape for when the car returns next week.
Off to the paintshop today. Looking toward to getting her back - can’t wait to see how she’ll look.
Cleaned and coated replacement fog surrounds and original rear bumper insert, rubbed down and primed upper grille ready for paint tomorrow.
And while the car’s away garage is being cleared out...
Lower grill I’ve just coated with Gyeon Trim - turd of a job. Old one was painted badly. By me and as the bumper’s being painted I wanted it to look smart so bought a good replacement.
Upper grill painted similarly to @Yorkshire Pudding above and about to redo as it’s picked up a few chips.
Productive day. First thing popped down to The Clio Man to check timing and it’s spot on. I’m going to revisit the RR later in the year when it’s cooler. Car feels as quick as ever so I’m not going to get hung up over last weekend’s result.
Back home and stripped down ready for the trip up to...
Also worth flagging Autosmart Prepsol as a cleaner. It’ll remove any dressing and leave a prefect surface for dressing. Always use gloves as it’ll make your fingers go white but I use it when I want squeaky clean tyre walls.
Warming the tyre wall can help too - gently of course!
Trip to Surrey Rolling Road. Was hoping for a slightly better result but down on power although improved mid range torque.
Run 1 was October 18, Run 2 today.
Temperature been put forward as a possible reason versus October 18. Bit gutted after the amount I’ve spent over the last few weeks but...
It was originally designed to protect insulation cables hence the name so it’s not bad on wheels at all.
Carbon Collective Platinum Wheels is very good too. Top it with Gtechniq Exo and even better 👍
Lots of little jobs ticked off. Coolant flushed again as some of the old pink shite was stuck in the system. All done and Mountain Dew goodness so OCD is satisfied. New thermostat fitted at the same time.
Coolant bottle lid emblem painted. Just because.
Cup bulkhead panel removed, wire brushed...
Thanks bud. Indeed it is - I knew it was coming so the cost wasn’t so bad in the scheme of things. Aside from a knackered alternator ages ago the routine maintenance costs over the last 4 years have been very manageable.
Couple of bay pics - lots to paint and tidy up. Looking forward to the next stage. Coolant flush also on the cards - was done twice last week but still some old stuff left 🙄
Belts finally done last Friday. Trip down to Gary Spooner and the following was carried out.
- dephaser and belts
- water pump
- A/C delete using Cup alternator setup
- new radiator
- new injectors
- new plugs
- new coolant bottle
- Cup bulkhead plate fitted
Revs more keenly, feels a...
T1 for me. All the below have it on.
Deep clean tyre first - I’ve just started using Gyeon tyre cleaner. Apply thinly then as Kyle says buff gently; I usually leave it an hour minimum. No sling.
Gyeon Tyre is the same as Fireball Ultimate Tyre Coating - less gloss and almost as durable as T1.
Day off today so some more lockdown projects. Seatbelt buttons restored, cargo net added and all exterior plastics coated with Gyeon Trim. Wife’s car washed as still in almost daily use.
Belts service next - possibly later this week.
