    Won't start

The immobiliser is not disabling then. Try disconnecting the negative side of the battery for 5 minutes, then reconnect it and turn the key to ignition but see if the light goes out before fully starting.

    Battery advice

Ahh right, I'd prefer to test it properly rather than keep buying batteries.

    Battery advice

I take it you've done the test with a multimeter, where you remove the negative cable on the battery and put the meter between the battery terminal and the cable that you've just removed? The draw in Amps should be less than 50mA.

    Battery advice

If your car isn't draining it and it's just not holding charge, i'd say you've been unlucky with both the ones you've had. Can get the Bosch S4 from Euro Car Parts for around £50.

172 running issue - cam belt issue?

I noticed you're in Darwen. Take a trip down to Birchdown, they're in Malpas. Would take you about an hour and half to get there, but it'd be worth it to know it's been done properly.

The proper filter strap tool would be better. Filter is about 80mm in diameter, pliers wouldn't open that far i doubt.
