My 172 has the alloy bonnet, as my first one did. They're so light you almost throw it up when you lift it up, ridiculously light they are. I believe it was mainly the W plate ones that had the alloy bonnet, should be able to grab one second hand.

For a daily I'd much rather have a Megane; more comfortable, quieter, torquey engine. Can't beat the Clio for just thrashing around though.

List above is too comprehensive. All I will say is make sure you bring enough beer for the first night because you won't have time to go to the supermarket. I made that mistake in 2011 and almost had a meltdown. Would rather have forgotten my tent and slept in an MX5 for four nights!
