I'll never forget seeing my ph1 172 being driven away. It had just been cleaned, looked absolutely mint, he gave it a bit of a poke in 2nd and the exhaust and filter made a nice roar. I was devastated. Worst automotive decision I've made selling that car, although financially probably a good one.
I've heard of a fair few of the 197's and 200's having new boxes on here. Doesn't exactly inspire confidence for the second hand market in years to come.
I agree, turbo's give a wide band of useful power where as with an N/A lump (small capacity) you have to be over 5000 rpm to get it to do anything.
Turbo's are better for 90% of the time but N/A is more involving imo for the other 10% when your out for a good drive.
I'd just chuck some uprated pads on then try it on track as it is. If you feel then that you want to change something else then take it from there. No point in doing loads of stuff that you may not want/need.
I can see why the pops and bangs appeal to some but it doesn't to me. If its come as a result of the car being tuned i.e. itbs, sc etc then fine.
Really nice car though mate, nice exhaust note.
I've heard that they can damage the box as the JC5 box isn't a great fan of quick shifts. I know the box on my 172 didn't like to be rushed and that was without a quickshift.
On a tight road like that FWD will benefit the Clio. RWD is better for more sweeping bends.
As much as people hype up RWD from my experience I prefare FWD overall.
To be fair a standard RS Clio has a very good standard spec, is comfortable, quiet and has a nice torquey economical (1*2's) engine. Even somebody not so much into driving could appreciate those qualities in a car.
As above its just about drivability. Coupled with other breathing mods such as exhaust, decat, matched inlets and uprated filter you may be looking at about 8bhp peak increase based on a live rolling road map. People at RS Tuning seem to achieve around that figure any way.
Only really worth it...
Sounds like your enjoying the car. The mods aren't specifically the way i'd go with it but its your car.
Is lowering next on the list? Sportlines would go down a treat. Sharpen up the handling nicely too.
