I'd forgotten about these actually. A couple of years ago there was a few on here with them but I haven't heard of one for ages now. Supposed to be a nice cruiser with plenty of torque.
I wouldn't be overly concerned about headline bhp figures. Mods like matched inlets, remaps etc are more about drivability on Clio's. I'd get that cone filter off too, causes erratic torque curves. Standard ph1 172 airbox or an espace v6 airbox is what you want mate.
I know how you feel mate did a very similar thing in my 1.2 Clio. Big lesson learnt for me as well.
Put it down to experience and hope it costs as little as possible. It may sound stupid but having experience of having a bump, I think, can make you a better driver. It did for me anyway.
A year after selling my ph1 172 the Clio bug has bitten again.
I've got a budget of up to around £2500 but its always a bit flexible if the right car comes available.
Basically I've been looking at ph1's and cups. I'm finding a nice well maintained ph1 hard to find so its looking like I...
Isn't a Twingo GT essentially just a MK2 Clio with a TCE engine in it? To be fair I think the TCE would be a cracking engine in the MK2. In the lardy MK3 it doesn't feel much better than the NA 1.2
Although thinking logically buying a ph1 172 would be a much better idea.

Four Thousand, Seven Hundred and Ninety Five Pounds for that!
Words fail me. I'd only pay that much for that if there was £4295 in the boot with it.
Looks really good that. I had an extreme 4 too in 1.2 form. Decent spec on them and look nice being all colour coded as standard.
Whats the 1.6 like compared to a 1.2? decent enough upgrade?
If I had my time again with my 172 I would have took it to Fred or Birchdown knowing what I know now. All I can say is I found out that 9 months after I had the belts done (sold it after 7) it needed a new inlet cam and the belts doing again. So yeah, essentially I wasted £490. Brilliant.
Re: Some pics of my new place... *FRP Content! ;)
That is a really nice place to live! So much better than renting a generic new build 'apartment'.
FRP Looks clean.
I've never been pulled in the near 5 years I've been on the roads. That includes two mopeds, a 1.2 Clio, 172, Mazda 323 and MX5.
I guess its a case of driving appropriately and a bit of luck.
I used to forget to lock my Clio's all the time. The amount of times I walked up to them pressed the key fob and it locked instead of opened was ridiculous.
I regret putting a ktec stealth on my 172. I should have gone for a BTB (although i'm not sure they were out at the time) or a yozza. The stealth is heavy and boomy. It did sound good at full chat but there are far better systems available.
