Clio's are great fun but there are other cars out there. I miss my 172, I always look at the for sale ads every time a clean ph1 comes up, however i've not missed it enough to actually get another one. I find my mx5 better in most ways really but every time I see a ph1 172 or a trophy I always...
My mates know not to mess with my car because it means a lot to me. Bar banging on the roof to set the alarm off. b******s. Doesn't cause any damage though so its quite funny.
You also need a competent person to use said tools. I've had a cambelt done badly by so called specialists that actually were using the right tools. All the gear no idea.
Thottle bodies on a boosted engine? Its occasionally done like on the Nissan GTI-R but it will cost you literally a fortunate as everything would need to be custom fabricated. Better off just buying a 197.
This is very true.
I hate having short ratios in top gear, my mx5 sits at 3500 rpm @ 70 mph too and it does my head in, its good for overtaking on the motorway because it gives decent acceleration but for a cruise its just irritating. Its surprising how much difference it makes having a car...
All the magazine tests show the 1*2 as being quicker on the sprints to 60 and 100. However that is with a full no mechanical sympathy launch. On the road the wider power band of the mini should prove advantageous. Never came up against one in my 172 though so can't really comment.
I've never chosen a car based on colour. My first car was a bargin so I just went for it (silver), my second car was a ph1 172 so its hard to find a good one therefore colour wasn't a priority (silver) third was just a run around so didn't car (green) and my mx5 was just about me liking the look...
I'd just keep the 182. If its proving to be reliable which I presume it is as you haven't mentioned repairs then really its only tax and insurance that are expensive. A 182 will do 35 mpg all day long, doing the miles your doing which are presumably motorway will see around 37-42 mpg. The...
I'll be going to this. Went last year and it was a good day. The drifting and time attack is really good. Its also fun to laugh at the cruise stands with old chavs in vauxhalls and younger chavs in saxos playing s**t music with 14 y/o girls sat in the back.
I've been to meets in all my cars. 1.2 Clio, ph1 172, Mazda 323 and my MX5. To be honest what you turn up in has never been an issue, in n0rfbest anyway :rasp:
The back end was very planted in my 172 too. I know some people with 1*2's have the back end out constantly. I suppose it depends on tyres, suspension setup etc.
My tax is £210 and my car will be slower than Alex's after his tweeks. Probably worse fuel economy than the Megs too. FML. Although if its hot in France i'll be haivng the last laugh, unless I get sun stroke and have to put the roof back up in which case I'm fucked as I have no AC.
Either way...
They're built for it. Once warm my 172 used to see 7rpm almost daily. I didn't used to do it in 1st though really because the 'boxes and engine mounts don't tend like it, maybe this has been improved in the mk3's?
I used to in my 172 and do in my MX5 too. Petrols so expensive it puts a bit of a downer on it at the minute but I bought a sports car for a reason, If I wasn't going to drive it for fun I may as well sell it.

Stunning cars. Ph1 still looks great even with the modern stuff around it.
