if the car is frozen after being outside overnight, sometimes the brake pads tend to freeze to the discs and you sometimes get a clunk or two when moving off, (but this wouldnt include the changing from 1st to second problem).
My mate has a 106 GTI, and yes we like to have little races from time to time, but we ultimately know that my car (172) is going to beat his everytime, thats why i never act like a pr*ck (shorty) and go mouthing off how much i beat him by.
FunkyAsFunk, where do you live? I am 21 with 4 yrs no claims with renault insurance on a Mk2 172 insured at 12K, North Wales and I am paying approx £1200 a year.

My mate has got a 106 GTI with just a back box on it. Really quick car, went to Aintree with him from North Wales a couple of weekends ago and he couldnt keep up with my 172, even when he took me to pick my car up from Burnley and i was running it in he said he couldnt keep up with me. Not a lot...
ball joints are fairly cheap, average around £15.00, will be attached to supporting arm, may need rivets drilling to remove ball joint like on my old fiesta. Otherwise to replace joint and arm would be approx £80.00
