Well generally 9 times out of 10 they’re repairable. The only time they’re not is when it’s damaged the casing and allows the oil to come through into the clutch housing.
I’ve got plenty of spares to help keep costs down as well 👍🏻
In fact, that could even be a clutch cover failure after listening to it again.
Drop the oil out your box and have a look at the colour and fit bits of metallic particles.
Lolololol yeah that sounds pretty unhappy doesn’t it 😂 deffo sounds mainshaft bearing.
Does your car run a speedo? If it does, then that box *should work, but quite why they’ve listed a jb3 box up as a 182 gearbox is beyond me!
The dci boxes have shite ratios and are also no stronger than the 129.
It’s the torque that kills the jc5 unfortunately. The only way to not kill them is run decent oil and change it regularly.
The only potential option in terms of jc5 is to get the 089. They have taper bearings on the input...
The 16mm socket size plunger that sits in the bottom of the box can leak as well mate. If it’s been dragged around the floor, that plunger takes one for the team and gets scuffed up - I’ve seen them leak there as a result of the cap being damaged and it allows the oil to pass through, but...
It could even be leaking around the casing join tbf mate. The proper stuff for the casings is loctite 508, but I had a couple that despite being squeaky clean, leaked and had to come back to be resealed.
Needless to say I switched over to loctite rtv sealant and never had an issue again...
The gearbox you have is a jc5 130, and unfortunately the only way to get better mpg is to swap out the final drive for the ph1 172 item - gearbox code jc5 089.
There aren’t any options for 5th other than making it shorter which isn’t what you’re wanting.
If it’s a 1*2 f4r I would imagine the oil pressure will be similar to the pressure of pissing into a bucket. They’re horrific and it took a lot of working out to understand why they’re so poor. It’s not just one thing either, it’s a combination.
Nope. R3 generally had better oil pressure because of a couple other areas were different to the 1*2 f4r.
I used to modify the oil pumps for all the engine builds I’ve done, but it wasn’t just a case of shimming the oprv.
