Thanks for the replies. I'm going to stop hammering it in first, since thats the only time i have the issue and as you say theres not much need for it really.
I went out for a drive yesterday and it was great fun. Thrashing the car as I normally do. However, I did notice that if I pull off hard in 1st, get to 7000 revs and then change gear quite quickly, it can seem to crunch.
It did this once, and i've noticed it one or two times previously to...
I rarely see the right side of 30 in mine. I know it could do better, but, B-road blasting mixed in with some urban driving for good measure is never going to be the way to go for fuel economy.
Mate theres nothing wrong with ragging your car about, I do it myself. That doesnt make me a muppet or a chav any more than it makes you one. Like me, you probably just enjoy driving fast.
No that not where the reputation comes from. It comes from the amount of barried up Clios with big wheels...
OK... thats a fair point.
However, comparing to the CTR, the CTR actually is 3 bhp more, and 40 kg less than the 197, so it actually falls quite short to that in acceleration. Not as much as the figures seem to suggest though.
I'm guessing the top speed is limited by gearing?
Also the CTR...
Thing is the Clio demands to be taken on to a twisty country road and flogged relentlessly, then it shows you why its special.
Its an old school hot hatch. Light weight, naturally aspirated engine and a complete hooligan, but drive it around like a normal car, and it will simply seem like a...
What did you have before?
I've driven lots of "performance" cars, and frankly the 182 is one of the most fun.... it doesnt get much more fun without perhaps going to dedicated sports cars like the Elise, or possibly, and arguably, some of the old school hot hatches.
I was always under the impression that the 197 had short gearing, and if so, that would not be "engineered to slow it down" in my book. That might be the case if it had very tall gearing but from what i can see it does not.
The lack of speed seems to be a combination of much heavier kerb...
Most keen drivers care little for whether a car is a couple of tenths of a second faster, and more for naturally aspirated fun, RWD, multiple cylinders, in a small, nimble little car.
Yes the Meg is fast. Almost completely anonymous compared to a V6 in any benchmark you might care to mention...
Probably worn brake pads. Either that or they might need a clean. Mine did it. Was because they were worn, ultimately.
Edit just seen the comment about the lights on the dash, thats definitely worn pads mate.
To be honest i wouldnt bother with any induction kit whether it be with panel filter or open cone. The cone type will give a nice sound but will either not give any gains or will actually reduce power and torque, even if subjectively it may seem quicker or as quick because of the sound. And the...
I certainly wouldnt bother wasting £250 on a viper. Might as well burn the money by the sounds of things.
I'd probably go with brakes first, and maybe suspension second.
Put simply, because as many of the weasal heads keep forgetting, the petrol revs higher, which allows shorter gearing, and therefore torque at the wheels is often very similar.
Also, torque is great for that initial get up and go in the mid range, but once you are motoring, its BHP that...
Actually most owners not only over estimate the overall power of their car (I've seen many owners claim they put out as much as 160 bhp as STANDARD), but also over estimate what they chip to.
They can chip to 200, but not just with a chip - they need some serious extra modifications. The Ibiza...
Just wondering, I'd like to have everything i need to change my airfilter to a cone type design, and I dont have much in the way of tools, just a few basic spanners and screwdrivers. Is there anything else i will need?
Alternatively, if there is, if theres anyone round the durham/newcastle...
Yes it does :p
Most diesels i follow still smoke, including a 2 year old Audi I followed the other day, which, in his attempt to try and shake me from his tail, turned my car to graphite and gave every passing pedestriam asthma immediately.
My old Furby vRS smoked...
Not many cars have...
The powerband thing: You just cant compare the two cars, they are so completely different that any comparison is worthless.
A naturally aspirated petrol is something that builds up the more you rev it.
Diesels are not. They are something like "nothing, nothing, nothing...
Agreed ^ Evo mag shows the 182 as 17..5 secs to 100 and 20.7 secs for the GTI-6, but you do realise, this will be an invitation for the GTI fanboys to come over and claim how X or Y magazine is wrong, is taking backhanders, etc etc...
I havent read most of this thread, as usual, most of it will be full of sh!t about how diesels are the fastest cars around cos of da torque man!
I had a guy on a recent meet who was "interested to see if i could keep up" with his chipped Fabia vRS. Without going in to too much detail, he later...
LMAO, exactly what I was thinking when I read that as well.
A 225 rarer than a V6.... hmmm I dont think so somehow, I can count on one hand how many V6's I've ever seen.
End of the day, the Meg is just like every other lard arsed turbo'd hot hatch out at the moment - i.e. nothing special. The...
Nail on the head, I got the blue flame because I couldnt justify having an exhaust that was 10% of the value of the car when I bought it.
I think the blueflame is fine for the money (and I paid £235 for mine). Sure you can get better, but rather than spend £500 on brakes, £1k on an exhaust...
If insurance is really a problem i'd go for a DCI 100 TBH. The torque will keep it interesting, i'd go for that over any petrol powered version except for the 2.0 litre ones obviously.
I've never driven a cup packed one but mine doesnt have the cup packs and i will say that if the cup packed ones are 20% harder, then it must have an extremely harsh ride!
