The fuel economy is actually superb IMO for a car of its performance.
If you had one of the new turbo lardarses you could expect 20 or less MPG regularly ;)
Yep, still loving mine too. I've had itchy feet a few times in the last few months, and have test driven loads of cars (in my pricerange) and basically theres virtually nothing in its price range thats more fun, while remaining at least slightly practical. To me its no wonder the RS's have won...
Dont think i would bother tbh, they are essentially the same cars really, theres not enough of a change really to justify it. Sure each car has various things in its favour over the other, but all in all its just like swapping a cadbury's dairy milk for a galaxy.
Thing is, isnt it blessed with a close, relatively short ratio gearbox? That would kind of dismiss that argument if so, but would make it all the more puzzling too.
So far, this is the only comment that has really touched upon what i was trying to ask. If this is anything to go by, then it would seem that indeed, there is a chance of engine failure if using revs higher than the car can handle.
Right, I see a lot of people on the forum have remaps. I note that they seem to improve drivability and also increase the rev limit.
Now, I have my blueflame exhaust and soon will be going for an induction kit (simota probably). After that, at some point, I was considering going for a remap...
I know top end doesnt matter that much, but am I the only one who thinks 128 mph is pathetic from a car with supposedly nearly 200 brake?!
A Fabia vRS can do that, and that only has 128 bhp, and weighs and extra 75 kg over a 197!!!
Some of these comments are strange to me. The Clio is the first car i've experienced with xenon lights, and I have no problems whatsoever seeing signs. Perhaps get your eyes tested? They are far better than the normal lights i've had on some of my other cars, where i felt like i may as well...
Thing is if you adjust your driving style then it can feel quick without taking it to the limit. For example, even just driving with the revs between 4.5k and 6k is not thrashing it completely, but is good enough to give some serious progress compared to most cars.
Its not only the fact that the Clio only has 148 lb ft of torque, but it does not peak until 5,250 rpm, which is about 85 mph in 4th!!!
The Clio is quite grunty for a 2.0 litre NA car, but overall, as you say its not a great car for ingear acceleration.
If you think the Clio is gutless, try...
Someone on another forum I was on showed a speedo vid of his tuned ST, and I was surprised to discover it was no quicker up to the ton than mine (i posted a vid of mine too). I dont think he was too impressed to discover this! They *should* be quicker, but it didnt seem to be (although I am sure...
The 197 is much closer to the size of a Megane than the 182 ever was.
They look pretty similar - this is subjective - but in my eyes the 225 is much better looking.
Fair point on the NA engine, but its now a heavy beast and it sounds a bit gutless. They could have perhaps just employed a small...
Somehow perhaps I think the 197 would have been better with a turbo motor. I know its what everyone else seems to be doing these days, but with that weight to drag around, it would have benefitted from extra torque. As long as they made it a high revving turbo.
Anyway, I can really see no...
Agree on your thoughts with the Lotus. In fact, the Exige is my favourite as it offers blistering performance in the real world, and basically handles like nothing else this side of a Caterham.
I've been out for a ride in a standard Elise (135 bhp K series engined model). The Clio would...
Yep, agree with the vid. Confirms what i've thought after reading people on here's impressions. Objectively excellent, but the spirit has been lost.
Just yet another grown up hot hatch. If I was in the market for a Renault hot hatch, I think I'd just go for the Megane - at least if nothing...
You should have dropped a cog ;)
Seriously though I remember when my mate had a race with one in a chipped 1.8T Ibiza and the BMW didnt actually pull much until we hit 90 and then it just accelerated away into the distance.
I never said it wasnt faster.
Sure, tight corners, low end torque is going to come into its own. If its a really tight corner, best to use first in a Clio IMO.
If you can keep it on cam its not that bad through the corners though.
To be honest though, theres more to driving than just speed...
Not on mine it doesnt.
The camzone on mine seems to be:-
2nd gear - 45 - 65
3rd gear - 65 - 90
4th gear - 85 - 110ish
You generally have to change up at 7200 rpm in 2nd to get in the cam zone in 3rd.
He's sort of got a point though, dont you think?
The Clios top end is nothing special. Its not really about 100+ speeds, its all about the speeds you can do in the first 4 gears for me.
I could have bought a Vectra GSI for the same price as a Clio and as one police constable proved, that can...
The main problem i find in the Clio is waiting for it to come on cam. Doesnt come on cam till about 65 mph in 3rd, and when not in its camzone, its nothing special.
The other day I had a play with a 350Z - much more torquey car. Both started off after taking a left turning, presumably we were...
