whats the black thing above the battery, looks like an external hard drive? this is in a 172 if it changes anything the point on the right hand side where it bolts to the car has broken, was wondering if this is an issue

drove my 172 in the rain a minute ago for the first time (owned 2 days.....), water started dripping from the overhead light. i removed the light and there was a fair amount of water in the light area, and down towards the windscreen it had pooled slightly. the roof lining was wet in the center...
