I've got a 172 cup. When it's really wet the brakes take ages before they actually feel like they might stop the car any time soon. I guess it's while they heat up and vaporise the water.
I have cheapest pads I could find, so maybe that's a problem but they are fine in the dry.
Anyone else get...
Hi
I've acquired a K&N filter off a 2000 Clio 172 but it won't quite fit the air intake pipe for me 2002 172 cup.
Did the air filter change?
If so can I just get the 2000 172 pipe that connects the airfilter to the manifold/plenum chamber as I assume the manifold/plenum chamber didn't...
Just checked my receipts and the tyre has done 35k miles. The previous one that wore the same also did 35k miles before I noticed it was out of shape so I guess I can't complain too much.
The near side rear on my 172 cup is wearing unevenly. It's starting to look like a 50p piece! It's the second one that's done it. Been on for 20k+ miles. Is it normal for the cups? The tyre guy reckonned it could be a suspension fault but was most likely just that the back of the car is so...
When mine started doing this it turned out to be the motor in the boot lock mechanism had died. I think renault wanted 60 quid for the mechanism. Got one for a fiver from a scrappy. You could take it out and have a play with the wiring etc to see if there is a loose connection. Also i could see...
I had a whiring noise from one of the rear tyres after a sock absorber went and caused the tyre to wear lots of flat spots. You could feel them when you ran you hand over the tyre surface.
Binding brakes is another possibility. Does the disk have a blue look to it - probably not yet if the disk...
That light came on for me and it was a lambda sensor. The car also started running very badly as well though. You need to get someone to read the fault code the computer is reporting. I'd get it checked out but I wouldn't stop driving the car in the meantime. Just keep an eye on it.
I get 36-39 MPG on country lanes/dual carridgeway and I drive quickly. I do 550 miles a week and rarely get passed on dual carrideway/motorway - maybe once a week ;-)
My tank has run dry at 9.9 gallons and I daren't take it past 10. Seems to get less accurate the more times I turn the engine on...
There are some plastic (white?) hex adjusters behind the lights. You'll need an alan key. Mine aren't Xenons though so could be different. Can you not turn them down with the dial below and to the right of the steering wheel as an interim measure?
They probably got the alignment of the valve timing 1 tooth out. Take it back and get them to check. You could check yourself but it's not easy and will involve some dismantling. I can send you the instructions if you private message me your e-mail address.
Fitted a new upstream lambda sensor this morning and its all sorted. I checked the plugs and looked for any wiring probs before buying the new sensor but checking the wiring was difficult due to the crap access underneath. Managed to get the old one off pretty easily once I'd got the car up nice...
My original post when I did it. Read past me getting the bonnet open...

Some helpful pics someone pointed me at.

I've done my 172 cup. You don't need the special tools if you are confident about what you are doing. You do need the manual or some other guide though for torque settings and knowing what to do with the tensioner. There are no keys on the crank or cams they are held in place by the tighness of...
Hi
My 172 cup has the engine management warning light on. Fault reader reports P0135 which is lambda sensor heater fault bank 1 sensor 1. It is also running like a dog. OK when cold then really low power plus mis-fire when warming up. Once warmed up still mis-fires quite often and and has lots...
16 quid for a new badge, not too bad ;-)
Did the cam belt. Locked the crank with an 8mm drill bit instead of the special tool. Blunt bit forward! Was tricky to find without removing the cam seals at gearbox end. So removed a spark plug so I could tell when I was near TDC. Marked the cam...
I got the b**tard open and didn't need to break anything (important)!
Here's how I did it.
Remove bumper as suggested. The grill just unclipped from the bumper. Rather than break the grill I took a hammer and screwdriver to the little blade thing that holds the bonnet shut. You can just...
I've had this problem too.
My guy failed on low brake effort. He passed it in the end after I told him that's how it's meant to be etc but charged me for "adjusting" it. Sounds like boll**ks and Renault said there is no adjustment. So this year I used a couple of cable ties and to act like the...
Well I'm almost at the point were I'm considering cutting through the bonnet.
Any last thoughts before I make the cut?
I've already cut a hole where the Renault badge is as SVB116 said and you can see the mechenism sort of but access is still bad. I poked and prodded to no avail with a long...
With regard to the grill. I've started trying to get the bumper off and it seems the bumper and grill are all one piece. Can I definitely get a new bit for the grill if I cut it?
How come they are essential?
I've changed a few cam belts in my time so I'm no novice.
If I mark the pinions I reckoned that would be enough. Though as I read the instructions it sounds like the crank pinion is not locked to the crank except by the tightening of the pulley bolt - is that why...
Hi
I have a 52 plate 172 cup.
When I came to change the cam belt the bonnet won't open! When I pull the lever you can hear the cable/mechanism move under the bonnet.
I've tried all the tips I can find on the forum. Pull cable harder, wiggle bonnet, etc to no avail.
I can't see anything to...
Just done a bit more research and if I'm right the cup model only hit the road in October 2002 i.e. not many have had to have an MOT yet.
Any one out there had their cup MOT'd yet?
Hi
I have a clio cup 172. Its just failed its first MOT due to low rear brake effort. The handbrake is fine its just the foot brake.
I got Renault to take a look and they said its the compensator not working. I took a look myself and there was no link between the compensator and the rear...
