if you take it to someone with the machines like those Protyre use, they'll be able to check the caster/camber at the same time - this'll let you know if you've bent anything other than the track rods. if you've only bent the track rods, it can be 'fixed' by having the tracking re-done.
dunno...
you'll have bent something. i'd start by taking it to have the tracking done on one of these proper four wheel alignment jobbies (Protyre have them and are very good); they should ensure that the steering wheel is kept dead straight as they track the car up; not all places manage it though
Right; I've had this car for about a month now and have only just, today, had the chance to give it a good going over.
On top of the problems I've already noted from having been driving it, I've spotted a couple more in the garage today and wonder if anyone can offer a little advice.

kind of you - thanks. not had it long; got a small list of disturbing noises already - hopefully you'll not regret having offered! lol
will check out the meets section:)
i've had a look in the manual ;) and know where it should be now - the lower of the two etchings mentioned above
manual says that it should be on a plate though - there's no plate; just what appears to be a rusty etching - can anyone tell me if this is this as it should be, or am i missing a...
new to these cars myself so apols if this is a well known first port of call, but could it be the gearbox mount?
mine's also rattling and i've been told it's a common problem and is likely to be this mount having worked loose, allowing the exhaust to knock against whatever it knocks against (!)
Hi,
Attempting to locate my engine number.
Have searched on here and have picked up on suggestion that it's down by the oil filter.
Have had a look and can see a long number etched into the block by the dipstick tube - it doesn't tally with the engine number in the documentation though...
Thanks
It's a '52 with 30k on the clock, so is due. I wondered if it might be cam belt related.
I'll be easing off somewhat until I can have someone listen to it and give me a firm diagnosis.
It came from a dealer so I've the statutory three month warranty. Will look into it ASAP and see...
Hi,
Picked up my 172 Cup yesterday and can already tell it's going to be great fun to run.:D
I've started picking up on things that I want to look into though; the first being a squeaking/squealing noise (fan belt stylee) at over 6,000rpm.
It only does it at full throttle - if I pull it...
I'm off within the next half an hour or so to look at a couple of 172 Cups in the Midlands; one is a '53 @ 44k.
It's a dealer car and I've been told that the prev owner was an engineer (taking this with a pinch of salt..) and changed his own AUX belt.
Quick question: is this a specialist job...
Hi,
I'm new to the forum and haven't had a good look around yet - so apols if this has been done to death or anything like that!
I'm looking for a 172 Cup at the moment and am starting to come across cars that have been tracked.
Question is - what should I be wary of? I've a fair amount...
I'm new to the forum as I'm Cup shopping at the moment - know what you mean about being taken by the first drive though; they're v impressive!
Think you've hit upon something with the cambelt; the '02 cars will all be due an expensive replacement within the next six months.
It's always...
