I followed the guide on here, wet sand using finer and finer paper, then scratch remover, then a good polish up. I'm finding give them a good polish once a month keeps on top of them.

Well i've had my 172 for about three months now after flogging my disco.
I just thought I would pop up a few pics and some feedback as to how i've got on.
Purchased the car for £1500 which i thought was a good enough price to me considering the history etc.
it had about 3 months tax and mot...
I have a phII 172 53 plate and as the OE steering wheel was worn (melted) the previous owner fitted a standard clio one in its place.
the question I have is, can it have cruise fitted? could it already have it, just not on the wheel?

Was out and about the other night in my monaco blue 172 and spotted a few peeps about Corby, was dark but could defo spot some very moody looking motors about.Rob
one seen on the A1(M) heading south near huntingdon (Looked very tidy and sounded really nice) about half 6 ishthe other was heading into South Mimms services ont he M25 about half 7 ish. (again very tidy looking motor)
normal resin polish - but I only used this for the final buff up. once you have finished all the wet sanding phases you will need a cutting compound of some description (Maguires scratch - X, T - cut, Halfords cutting paste etc)this will smooth out most of the scratches, I did this once or twice...
I have been looking at peoples views on the (ARB) and it seams like the way to go.
my main problem at the moment is crap tyres, loadsa tread just crap brand :mad:
As above, fitted it this evening, omp rear strut brace second hand off the bay £15 bargain!
Anyway, the results.....
must say the arse end feels alot more planted and stable, the back end didnt wanna slide as much if that makes sense (New to all this)
so anyway i'm chuffed to bits with it...
I spent about an hour on each one, do it! if you **** it up - just sand it back with a more abrasive grade and work your way up again, its the same as paint prep really.
grab a stool, take a seat, and get stuck in!
Well I went with the method of.....
Firstly a damn good clean up with white spirits
used wet n dry sandpaper throughout
started with 600 dry
then 600wet
there was what looked like a laquered layer that had worn off the top quater of each light so the rest had to go too! :cool:
then stepped up...
