Some people paint the backbox black if it's noticable to others from behind. I personally don't like seeing the back box, just the pipe.

A wire brush is exactly that. A brush with hard, sharp metal prongs rather than hairs. If you go over the caliper with a wire brush like you would brushing your teeth (with a toothbrush mind!) you get rid of all the rust and crap. Most hardware stores should sell them for a few quid.

You can carefully prise it out. I asked at Renault if you can buy the insert seperately. They said you can't. That's probably why they go for about £20 whenever on ebay. I just touched mine up with some silver paint. Looks fine.

Every chav and his dad drives a VTS? No sir. VTR or less maybe. VTS's are rarer and tend to be owned by more mature enthusiasts. I could just as easily say every chav and his dad/gran drives a Clio. But I wouldn't say that about a 172. Again, owned by the more mature enthusiast.

What's the deal with the 4k rattle? I've searched a few threads and bumped another with no joy. My does it really loud and tinny at 4k through 2nd especially. IS this a warranty replaceable part? My car has 7 months of warranty left. Would they try and tell me it's wear and tear...

I've got this rattle now in my 53 172. Is this replaceable under warranty? Will they try to palm me off and say it's wear and tear? How can I tell them that it is a warranty fix?

How do you open the doors? Does the central locking pop it open? Not my cup of tea, would look nicer in a better colour but top work all the same.
