are these a generic part? or totally specific to renault (no other manufacturers use the same flange setup?)
ie instead of buying a used mid section and chopping the end of it, can i just buy the flanges from somwhere?
right well i tucked it up last night after driving it around all day
all went well, some noises i need to sort out (exhaust knocking/rubbing on over run, tailgate springs arent strong enough to hold it down over larger bumps, meaning it bangs, and i think the exhaust is blowing)
got caught...
this is for the straight dogbone, no twisties here
i am having a real problem pressing in the smaller bush
i can push the bush in by hand, but then as soon as i press the metal insert in it puts massive strain on them, deforming them badly, meaning when i release the pressure one of the...
if you plan on doing the big ends and shells you might aswell do the piston rings then
that's if the problem is the rings, if you're uncle's got a garage get it in there, family rates ftw ;)
by the look of the 3rd pic its easily moved around?
if you want to compare, get renault to order you a new one, then go have a feel of it, cheeky i know :clown:
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
that would be why it wont move at all then
ah well at least the wires are close to each other (im currently tapped into coil signal wire at ecu end, so no trouble to swap it to pin 70)
and after you mentioned it i looked for the resistor, but it all...
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
balls :dapprove:
why didnt i get anything at the tacho when i went to pin 70? not even a little movement from the needle! :dapprove:
just when i had tidied all the wiring up aswell
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
that's not what i got told ;)
i didnt get a reading from the tdc wire on the ecu, so went to cyl 2 and 4 output instead and got half reading as that's what foxy suggested
your quote:
foxy's quote:
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
hasnt matteh riggued up his tacho via pin 70 (iirc) which is the tdc signal wire to the ecu
me and you have gone directly from a coil wire, so surely the needle wont move for us?
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
no idea what the cause was, although it happened after i had man handled the wiring to get it into the relay/fuse box. we tried to get it to do it again, but it just started up without fail every time
didnt do the twice priming thing
but once its been...
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
almost :D
drove it back to my house last night and driven it to work this morning, hasn't blown up/caught fire just yet
this is EXACTLY what mine was doing (and it might still come back!) 12v to coil and pump on ignition (priming) but then...
maybe ripping was an exaggeration :o i can hold it, just a fair bit of resistance, through faster corners its fine, but then i have bump steer and loss of traction to contend with, it's really not designed for the road lol
it's a feisty little bugger!
i've left the geo printout at home (i assume it's all still the same, wouldn't hurt to check though)
ride height wise, using decarbon shocks and matched springs (all original stuff)
sits this high lol
its as if the wheel is trying to straight all the time, maybe its just the combination...
......does the steering wheel try and rip out of your hands the opposite way at low speed?
dont know if its just because the decarbon's are so damned hard?
i think my cup racer is around 2.5 to 3 deg negative
drove it for the first time yesterday around the block, then couldn't resist and drove it home and then to work this morning :D
giving it a bit of a shakedown to see what breaks/falls off lol
rev counter under reads, so it needs the resistor, will sort that this week
suspension is very...
oh........... my............... god
got the clio running on all 4 cylinders last night (broken injector plug)
so sat in it and gave it some revs, what a noise! backfiring again and again, shaking the car to bits and resonating around the bare mk1 shell
btw i have a straight through exhaust...
glad i could help, but sorry to be the bearer of bad news :(
at least you didnt spend an hour trying to press a poweflex bush in like me, there was no way on earth it was going in, im sure there is something wrong with it
i need to measure the centre pin for k-tec so they can compare it...
look on the ktec site under 172 engine, it shows both types of dogbone on there, the blue one in the twisted type, the yellow one in the straight type
im not saying it wont fit (although the guy at ktec said it wouldnt) im just saying check it over before spending time on it
