I use fully synthetic Mobil 1 15/50 Motorsport stuff, its the dogs IMHO. Will always sound tappy when it cold and before the pressure reaches the tappets, should quieten down after a few secs then get quieter still when shes warmed up.

So Nick, if you used uprated valve springs, or double springs you could raise the rev. limit on the 2ltr engine, asuming its all dynamically balanced?
If I was gonna build a 1.8ltr lump able to rev. to 10,000rpm wot size TBs would I need? 45mm or bigger?

Not exactly sure, I think its the box from the 172 Turbo, got an extra gear between 4th and 5th.

Cant argue that its easyer the rebuild an F7P as 2ltrs, but itll cost more, if you do you gonna use standard pistons, rods, etc or get forged items?

My mates got one, in a straight line they will just about beat you, down the twisties its all down to whos the better driver, ie I cant loose him and he cant loose me and neither of us can pass each other. Hes also got a Mini City with a 1275cc Maestro engine in it, and thats harder to keep up...

Would be very cool to have that lump, but I wanna keep the under bonnet area looking as standard as possible, ie only have NOS, Induction kit, strut brace and Supersprint SS manifold showing, less hasle from insurence company then.
So I could use the 6-speed box with the stander 16v...

I was gonna ask the same, surely if it was all dynamically balalnced and the rods shot peened it would be ok for for 7000, possibly 7500????

I think it would be cheaper to find a 2ltr Megan bottom end than to change the crankshaft/pistons in you current lump, the 2ltr bottom end and the F7P head fit striaght together, they use the same gasket face. A fully worked F7P head/manifolds, 32mm inlet valves, Piper 270 cams for a Willy...

I had my valvers cambelt changed about 7,500 miles ago, the water pump and alternator belt where both changed too.
Been running fine for the last 7,500 miles but now when I start her up from cold I get this horrible squeeling noise coming from the cambelt cover, when I rev her it stops. Doesnt...
