Aw thanks fella. It’s a good standard but tbh i could make the finish on some parts much better, but I’m going to use the car over summertime. Just trying to strike a good balance.
A cold and fresh early start today putting the engine back in.
A couple of small jobs to do under the bonnet first, including replacing a couple of melted grommets. They’ll no doubt melt again.
Then a clean up of the heat shield.
Then a check over the loom and cleaning up the...
A few more engine brackets arrived on Tuesday from Aqua Blasting, so I put a few late shifts in after work to build the engine back up.
It’s not perfect and had to paint the alternator and air-con compressor due to time constraints - major building work to the house at end of Jan).
But...
I’m based in the North East, North Yorkshire and my local track is Croft Circuit. My favourite track is Cadwell Park as i have family down there but getting lazy now and can't be arsed to do the 6 hour round trip unless it's for a special day.
My car is a Clio 182 which has been built to the...
Agree with all of the above. If you're sentimental over it, find some storage, leave it and come back when you can dedicate the time to it.
If not, put a price on it - without the sentiment - that you know it'll sell at and just get rid.
I have 3 Clio Sports now and never bought one of them...
Managed to break mine.
A few questions:
How critical is it that i buy a Genuine one? They're a lot of money to buy from Renault and there seems to be a lot of Delphi versions available for half the price. Is there much difference? Anybody had problems with aftermarket ones?
I wouldn't usually...
Last few jobs over the weekend building the arches back up and fitting a couple of captive bolts to the subframe.
It’ll save me a lot of pain later should I need to remove it again.
Tidied up the inner wheel arch protectors then refitted to the freshly painted arches. Pretty pleased with...
I’ve just realised this is the car from YouTube 🤦🏻♂️😂 Some fantastic content and very inspirational. Kick started my obsession to work on mine. As above - glad it’s sold on and not been broken. Might even see it out on track in 2022. But don’t hold me up 😉😂
Thanks Sam 😊
I use a lad called Wayne in Stockton. He has a Facebook page called Aquablasting UK. Very good and quick turnaround.
I saw a 172 Cup last year as I was pulling into SG Petch where I work. I was in my Black 182 and it was going the other way. Sort of waved at each other 😂 but I’ve...
I thought I’d do a quick summary of the work I’ve done so far on the RB as it’s easy to get lost with all the updates.
Work completed so far
Rear Beam Axle completely refurbished along with brackets, hubs and carriers
Brand new Purple Powerflex bushes
Brand new Genuine body to beam bracket...
Rubbish weather today mean’t a day in the garage cleaning up the engine.
Removed all the ancillaries, boxed them up and sent them off for aqua blasting.
Gave the engine a proper clean up with degreaser. Took about 5 hours as it was absolutely filthy but the gearbox and rocker cover came up...
At least you took it down there, which shows you care about your cars, and once it’s sorted you’ll have years of fun from it. I’m surprised that BG took as long as it did to sell. Looked like a bargain to me. Good luck with whatever you decide.
☝️ This.
I thought i wanted a 200 a few years back. Purely for more day to day comfort as the 182 was driving awful at the time. Borrowed a friends for a couple of days and whilst it was more refined, it bored the hell out of me.
Piled the money into the BG, got it to as close as factory as i...
Does it do this in any setting? When i first went to EPAS i was trying a really firm setting, almost fully clockwise, so i maintained the feeling into fast corners on circuit. Every now and then it would switch to zero resistance. Proper squeeky bum time when it did it, especially flying down...
Used that Metal prep as well.
I prefer the Hydrate-80 on engines as you don't have to faff about washing it off. A couple of coats leaves a really rich Black protective coating. And paint sticks to it like glue. I throw it on everything now
Also on the engine block I degreased and cleaned it up, then gave it a few coats of Hydrate-80 before painting it. I’ve found if you don’t do that, the engine will rust through after a month or so.
If you’re wanting an OEM look, take as many alloy pieces off as possible and get them aqua blasted. For colours - as mark suggested powder coating.
Rocker cover can be aqua blasted if off the engine but I just use a degreaser, wire brush, then get a fine brush and stick some VHT engine paint...
