You mentioned earlier in your post that money wasn’t great at the moment and that’s a fair bit of work that’s going to cost a chunk if done by a bodyshop.
I agree with the above that if you love the car, don’t bodge it. If it was me and money was tight, I’d gently agitate the rust, smother it...
Another one that was hard to find were the 2 top bolts (M8 x 35mm 8.8) on the steering rack that hold the bushes in place. These bolts also attach to separate brackets holding the power steering pipes - number 4 in this illustration. Torque for these bolts are around 25-30Nm - Thanks to...
Thanks James.
I used the torque calculator so suspected that was the case. The problem was slightly exasperated as the previous owner looks like he's used bolts from Halfords hence them snapping with very little torque. I've since got some 10.9 M8's now so they'll probably handle more Torque...
Quick question please.
I've scoured the forum and also been into my Renault dealership to ask about the torque settings for the upper bolt which comes as part of the Steering Rack Bush kit. Number 4 in illustration and marked as a red arrow on the picture.
It's the small M8 35mm bolt which...
Never felt the need for them tbh. I think the only time I’ve had low sun in my eyes is early or late in the season, but most of my trackdays are in the late spring to late summer months. They look good though 😊
Subframe back in and steering rack fitted correctly.
Did a bit of tidying up in the engine bay and painted under the arches.
Back at work tomorrow so that’s pretty much it until the weekend, then I can get the engine back in and start building the suspension back up.
First thing i spotted when disassembling the subframe was the bolts were pointing in the wrong direction. This is one of the longer bolts on the wishbone which should be the other way around, then separated by a spacer nut, followed by the small stabiliser bar and then a locking nut. It was the...
Apologies in advance for the pictures. I’m pretty much up to my eyes in engines, engine cranes, stands etc and have little to no room to take nice pictures.
Quite a productive couple of days on the RB starting with the steering rack brackets and sorting through some bolts.
This is the...
It’s a strange one Mark tbh. Took me 2 years to source mine but trying to buy the best cars is nigh on impossible. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the best ones are in the hands of the best owners now. I offered ridiculous money in the end but couldn’t convince the owners to part with...
I guess it depends if you’re doing the work yourself or outsourcing it. The amount of work involved is crazy. Only a mad b*****d would attempt to do it themselves 😂
I’m about £600 into my RB at the moment. The price of the new parts has been the biggest cost so far, the rest is just man hours...
Getting it all done in one go is definitely the way to do it. And it looks like you’ve caught the corrosion at the right time as well.
Keeping on top of it once it’s all been put back together should be easier too. Can’t wait to see it all coming back together.
Corner weighting = best money I’ve ever spent.
If I had a £1 for every Trackday Clio Sport owner that’s come over and asked me what power I’m running I’d be a rich man.
So after admiring their front and rear spoilers, cannards, carbon bonnets, go faster stickers etc….I ask “have you had it...
Took advantage of the balmy weather and set about removing the subframe. What a nightmare 🤦🏻♂️
One thing I’ve learned about this car is the real reason the previous owner sold it. Now’t to do with “needing the space” or “got too many cars”. More like I’ve tried to fix it on the cheap and I’m...
My son had an EP3 and every time I drove it I commented on the steering. It reminded me of my Kia Pro_Ceed GT which had electric PAS and was fine on the roads, but on circuit felt vague - like steering a boat. And every time I looked in the rear view mirror there seemed to be a Clio sitting on...
Makes sense. Certainly less 182's, about especially in the TDT over the last few years, and spare parts are getting a lot harder to find and expensive too.
Started reassembling the front dampers and finished off the brake calipers.
Totally rebuilt the calipers with new seals, pistons, bolts and HEL stainless steel bleeders. Hate the factory ones as they’re so soft.
Gave the springs some anti-corrosion treatment, some extra layers of paint and...
Nothing special here but an update nonetheless. Sorting through the parts I’m keeping and restoring to a decent standard. Again, finish isn’t the priority on these parts as it’s not a show car and will be in daily use. But they’re well protected against corrosion which is what counts.
I was...
Began stripping out the suspension today. Everything came off pretty easily as I suspect the parts have been recently replaced in the last year or so.
I’ll be replacing pretty much everything with genuine parts and bolts, except the springs and hubs which I’ll refurbish.
Got both sides...
Have a look on K-Tec Racing website at the 750 MC 182 championship regs. Some good information in there on what you’ll need to do to build a decent circuit car. Trackday Trophy website has similar information as I’m sure there’s many others.
For that kind of budget I’d just do what was suggested above and take a standard car, do the belts £600 ish, stick some decent track tyres on like AD08Rs, NSR etc..PBS Pads and put it on circuit then go from there. Baffled sump won’t be necessary.
Then if you get the bug, start buying better...
I think I’d rather put a 5-6k Clio into the barriers than that beauty. Plus a properly set up Clio 182 in the right hands will more than hold its own on a circuit.
I’d go for a proper dedicated set up as they’re pretty good standard on circuit but you’ll soon find yourself over driving it as the more track orientated Clio’s go past you.
Happy to send you info on mine, not for sale by the way, but I’ve got a couple of road going 182’s and a dedicated 182...
2 weeks and 400 miles later after fixing the oil leaks/cleaning the engine, it was time to check if my work was up to standard.
Super happy to see no leaks and the last major milestone complete for this project.
So that’s pretty much it for this car, just general maintenance to do. Only...
