Re: E36 v2
Its good fun if you want to hammer it around and don't want to hit anything, or test the car out. Good mix of corners and they don't tend to book too many on. Good new track surface, cheap too. Worth a visit if you've never been before.
Re: E36 v2
Yeah, it would help but its not really a priority yet. I ended up selling the two Cobras that I had in the Mk1, see what happens over winter.
Handful of things done since Blyton, but not got round to updating this yet. Just need to replace the RS-R before Oulton.
Re: E36 v2
Just want to get as much use as I can out of it, especially now I know all the bushings/suspension are spot on. Engines are cheap, reliable, widely available and swappable in a few hours if anything ever did happen. Engine and box can be had for £150-200, compared to an M3 engine...
Re: E36 v2
SR20 up against the bulkhead, I knew them well enough from doing the E30. 1/2JZ are big money in comparison, SR20 are plentiful and easy to extract power from with bolt on mods. Got bored, realised the chassis was knackered so moved on basically!
Re: E36 v2
Yeah, its night and day difference with the M50 on. I looked a car yesterday that was for sale, and it felt like a 323 compared to the 328+M50, well worth doing when you get round to it. Flies through the revs in comparison and you'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner!
Re: E36 v2
You should break 230hp with a map and inlet (AC and viscous fan delete). We'l see in the next week or two, going to RR it to get a baseline to compare it against my other that made 203hp completely stock.
US M3 Cams and M3 exhaust take it further, but then the generic map really...
Re: E36 v2
Much cheaper to buy in the first place, engines are ten to a penny and M50 Manifold + Generic remap makes 235hp+. For a clean 3.0 you're easily talking double the price of a clean 328i (going from what we've paid), 3.2 even more. Its ideal all the bits are interchangeable, and the...
RS-R are easily comparable to R888/A048 IMO, really capable tyre, its just peoples opinion of the 'Federal' brand that gives them a bad name on forums/the internetz (or more so people comparing them when they have never actually used them).
Used them on both my E36s, even with the 1300kg...
Re: E36 v2
Stretched its legs on Saturday over at Blyton Park. Great day, no issues, the car is brilliant.
Before going I dropped a seat in that I've had lying about for a few months, didn't want to be sliding all over..
Fitted some normal wing mirrors you can actually see out of, binned...
Re: E36 v2
The other one was ~1280kg on the Oulton Park scales with a bit of fuel in it. That was lightweight seats and no interior bar the dash. Generally the bonnet and tailgate are big weight savers, carpets are heavy/thick, plenty of places to save really. Although... add a cage in and...
Re: E36 v2
Yeah, I did consider the M3, but for the price (sub £1k) a 328 cant be beaten really. Quite a bit more than that for an M3, even if its still 'cheap'. M52+M50 Inlet+Map is knocking on the door of 230-235hp, with the same torque, when paired with the quicker 3.0 diff its plenty quick...
Re: E36 v2
Cool. A couple of people I know have done the same, mega cheap for the performance. Just hate how the compacts use an e30 rear suspension setup!
Yeah. INPA with a modified VAGCOM cable and BMW 20pin Adaptor
Re: E36 v2
Same as yours. I'l let you know about the cruise control in the next couple of days.
:sleepy:
They do have a lot of common faults to be honest, without having the other one (and E30/E46s) I would have never worked out some of the problems as quick as I have. The VANOS really...
Re: E36 v2
Various other bits have been done over the past couple of weeks, but not got round to writing them up or getting any pictures yet.
Purchased four reasonably priced 'sticky' tyres for some of the spare 16x8 wheels. I've used the RSRs before on the other E36, so thought I would try...
Re: E36 v2
Cheers!
After a week one of the CV boots had gone so I replaced the joint and boot from a spare shaft I had.
Although when checking over nuts/bolts earlier in the week I noticed the poor 1mm PowerFlex washers they provide were just that, p*ss poor.
They had bent quite...
Re: E36 v2
So after a cold night in the rain removing the complete rear suspension/subframe, we were left with this large empty space..
Cleaned up the surface rust and re-sealed. Fitted the replacement rear disc shields and pressed the stubs into the trailing arms..
Bolted the...
Re: E36 v2
Everything was turned round quickly, and the result being the same as the Mk1 days for those who remember..
..and I decided whilst it was apart I'd do the same stud conversion as I did on my Clio/E30. Milled the threads out to 1/2", then pressed in extended Ford studs (M12)...
Re: E36 v2
E36s have a pretty complex setup on the rear, with various balljoints, bushes and bearings. I wanted to overhaul all of this on the previous one, but never got round to it. Tell tale signs are the rear end feeling wayward, no precision in the handling poor ride quality. Everything is...
Started out with a factory ///M Sport in solid condition after my other had a split rear subframe-chassis mounts and various other patches of rust. This one needed to be done right from the start.
First.. HSD's, E30 lower arms with PowerFlex bushes and Powerflex'd M3 Front ARB. Sourced 10x...
I've had major issues with alarm/central locking on mine, ended up disabling it for now. The loom on the bootlid (where it comes out of the chassis and round the hinge into the lid) is a common problem (was actually a recall) and 5 of the wires inside the sleeve were completely broken on mine...
My Mk1 one was from custom cages. OK to deal with, profiles on the tubes way off in some places though. Ended up sorting it all myself anyway, they were not interested once they have your money like most companies out there!
