Got a couple, just cant be bothered using them lol. I'm in no rush to get it done, just works out that every time I've got a bit of spare time it rains, which is typical. If I dont do anything for a few weeks or a month its no biggy, not working to a deadline. Places for Feb are in high demand...
Yep still got my own trailer.. no I binned off the unit mid-summer, got bored of trekking there just to work on things (30min each way). Car stays behind work with the trailer now
Had it sat a while, took the inlet off and sold it for double the price I got the engine for. Weighed it in for £70... no one wanted it at that price! Nevermind
140hp 2.3. M20
Yeah, title needs renaming ha. Its not really costing more considering I've sold what bits I dont need, it just means more work lol.
Jon, I'm assuming you're on about the DriftOne/Driftworks day in Feb? If so I'm already booked onto it, but whether it makes it is another thing. I've got...
Basically the deeper section is usually at the front, but the problem is the crossmember on the E36 hits it, along with the steering rack. So just means you have to cut it back to a flange, then fab up an ally replacement so the deeper section is at the back closer to the bellhousing. I've kept...
Same top mounts / coilover bodies as I had on the E30. One thing I never understood was Gaz claiming their coilover bodies were corrosion resistant coated... yet mine only did two trackdays and zero road miles, stood still in a unit between then and they were rusted/pitted to f*ck when I came to...
Top mounts are set to minimum there, thats simply from the extra width of the E46 front wishbones lol. Yeah, well it was only a matter of time, I used it for a bit, few days and on the road and hated how flat it was until 4.5k>
That went from a completely normal evenly worn tyre to that in about 12 laps. Thought it was a geo issue but the rest of the tyre is immaculate and evenly worn. Swapped the fronts left to right and ran all day without issue or anything similar. I was going to contact Federal about it but I never...
The edge literally fell off round anglesey. I thought it had been catching on the bodywork, but after swapping tyres side to side the other did not have any wear or anything similar at all. Never had a tyre go like that over the past 5 years on track... has to be a failure in the compound IMO
I left mine parked up outside a couple of winters ago for 5ish months, started it every few weeks and ran it up to temp, didn't stop this happening though:
Had plenty of anti-freeze in too. Could see daylight through it after I stripped it apart. It was a really cold winter but it just shows...
Good work, nice upgrades too - the damping pullies seem to be a common thing these days. Replaced them on 320d, Mondeo, Transit and Pug not so long ago, good idea for the engine but asking to be a weak link as they get older IMO.
I got this one from someone I knew that hadn't used it. The same frame/handle (its 500mm) can be had from Demon Tweeks/Rally Design/OBP I think for about £50-60, then all you need is a cylinder (Wilwood .625 are about £30 on eBay). Can be done cheaper if you keep an eye out for a second hand...
Yeh Matty had one on his, I keep pestering him to get it on to his 14.
To be honest the only advantage in keeping the standard one is for parking if you use it as a daily too, oh and a proper MOT. They flog hydros that can 'lock' but its not advised as it keeps the system pressurised all the...
TBH It didn't need it, would easily slide in 3rd previously. I guess it just gives a bit more control on the speed, had a play with it earlier (on private land of course) and it does make it a lot easier to break the traction, at any speed
Indeed, doing a couple of drift days coming up to christmas before concentrating on track days again next year. Wouldn't have fitted it otherwise
Planning on ripping the rear end off at some point in the coming months, after looking over it all when the suspension was off the rear subframe...
So next up was fitting the rear coilovers, pretty simple..
Adjusted the droop on the shock to 80mm for now as its the recommended starting point.
Set about welding a mount for the hydro in after that. Started with some 2mm steel bent into a box, then profiled it to the exhaust tunnel...
Yeah, it already had the offset ones in, I had them on the E30 also. Unfortunately you cant get them in 60mm size for the E46 (to fit in the E36 lollipop), so I had to go with the normal ones. I could have used E36 bushes and ground the end of the E46 wishbone round but I didnt want to grind...
Not entirely sure! They seem to be sided though, as I screwed them onto the arms originally then thought I better check the old rack. Turns out I had them on back to front so ended up swapping them over. I put some rack spacers in when the arms were off also, gives miles better lock angle when...
