In case youre wondering I use -35mm PI springs on the front and Koni adjustable shocks all round. Its a good setup. The PI springs are ok, I wouldnt go for a complete kit from them though, Id rather have a decent brand of dampers.
OK people asking about different makes and stuff, with suspension as with everything, you get what you pay for. Basic rule of thumb is German gear = quality, UK budget gear =ok for the price but not great.
So in order of what Id want on my car just in terms of handling and quality of the setup...
A lot more than 10kg Id say Brun, for the lot. Like Edddd says, a pair of discs must be around 10kg on their own, a pair of calipers around the same again. Rear discs and calipers are smaller but must be 15kg altogether.
Loads had them. I wouldnt be surprised if the motors are the same in all Renault sunroof models of the same era eg. R19s etc. Scrappies is definitely your best bet, Renault will want a hundred quid just for a switch...just joking, or am I?
Renault have a history of always doing something different. Maybe its to do with the fact that theyre a nationalised company so can afford to take a few risks? I dont know, but Renault design has never stood still. Citroen used to be renowned for radical design and thinking but in the last...
Theres some aerosol stuff I use which will get rid of any adhesive with very little effort at all. Its called SPRAD, the only place Ive ever seen it is in my local ironmongers/hardware store here in Southend, but it is serious stuff, removes adhesive and grease and has never failed me yet. When...
Yes the decat pipe will make a small but noticeable difference, no if you get a Magnex decat it will not be any louder at all as its a proper stainless silencer box, and if you do stick with Magnex then youve got stainless all the way up to the downpipe. AFAIK no-one makes a stainless downpipe...
Actually that chrome spray stuff (PLasticote) from Halfords is pretty good. I reckon as long as you got the engine cover bit totally flat and smooth youd get a good finish that would look like metal.
Fair enough, Ill be the first to admit Im not sure what the kit contains, I was probably being stupid but the listing for it didnt make it clear what you actually got (Ive got a raldes catalogue somewhere as well!) Possibly its a solid disk rather than a bell and rotor setup, but if it is a...
Well I dont think Ive ever seen teh exhaust manifold on a 172 its so well hidden. In fact youd be hard pressed to find the engine! But no, the paint should be fine. As long as you put on a proper plastic primer, then the paint then lacquer I cant see a problem. The top of the engine bay doesnt...
LOL Bob, thats exactly what I got done for in Doncaster last year. But no fine or jail term, although they did try to put the wind up me. I honestly think that having a spare set of completely legal plates is what saved my bacon and made it not worth them pursuing me through the courts. Anyway...
Because they are 325mm diameter 8-grooved discs, 30mm thick and vented. The 4 pot calipers are huge. Plus you get the new mounting brackets and bells you need all made of the same billet alloy. Its a lot of stuff. I did look at Willwood but it just seemed a big hassle having to shop around and...
Thats BBs demo 172. Polished inlet manifold and colour coded cover. Looks even more mental when you see the real thing. The heat under the bonnet isnt enough to knacker the paint really. Its the exhaust manifold that causes most of it.
Good work! The closest it seems you can get nowadays is the Speedline Safari, although there are a couple of mag wheels they do which look close as well.
If they do the conversion Kev I would have thought it would depend on how far you go. For the basic conversion the compression ratio doesnt really alter so yes, the 2.0 lump will give you more torque at the bottom before the turbo gets going. But then who drives around at 2000 revs anyway?
If...
Heavy duty velcro. That way you can change your plates whenever you want, plus you can run around with illegal plates, and if you get busted, produce a completely legal set of pre-velcroed plates that you carry everywhere with you. Theres not a lot they can do if you can put it right there and then.
Its a Renault only part if you want a standard one. About £30 if I remember right. You can get uprated stiffer ones at the usual Renault tuners, HP and BB
LOL Mental! I just saw a 6R4 driving past in Earls Colne the other day. Dont know whether it was a replica or what but it looked genuine and it was a wicked rumble as it went past.
Lets hope these car thieves and joyriders are looking in on this thread - a lesson that you dont mess with a Cliosport car unless you want a panelling! Looks like 90% of people on here would do the exact same thing as Ben, so maybe the scumbags will think twice next time. Whats done is done, but...
Theres quite a few of us are quarter milers on here, well have to arrange something in the next couple of months. As soon as my valvers back on the road Ill be taking on any challenges at the dragstrip!
BTW Ive *never* been overtaken by any VW in my life. But the 66 Beetle I drive is pretty...
Well said Jon - anyway time will tell, me and you will definitely have to have it sometime this year up the quarter mile or perhaps Ill doss at Craggys again this year if hell have me, we can go for a cruise round Donny and see what the racings like...I wanna see what this motor of yours will do...
So anyone else got any reports of cheap Mobil 1 ? The best I found lately was £27 in Halfords on special. Got a bottle in the shed still that I was laying down for future generations.
BTW Im not caning NA power you understand...its nice to really hammer a motor and the sound of an F7 lump screaming away at the kind of revs where most other hatches of the era would have thrown a rod, is an unforgettable sound. But considering I only have one decent car that I throw all my...
