I tapped a thread into the end of the metal fitment and screwed an M6 bolt in with sealant to fully seal it off...never had a prob after that! If there is a small leak it will usually do its high idle crap, make sure its fully sealed!
Cant remember who fitted them for him, the timing was spot on when I checked it before I took them out though, so not sure who had re-done it if it was originally out
Its not much more labour to swap the cams if you are doing the cambelt by the book, as you would be loosening the pullies. They can just be taken off and the rocker cover taken off while you're there.
I removed them from Tooneys for him and it didnt take long at all. Then they went in and out...
Goes off the VIN afaik...the VIN I entered into mine when RSTuner asked for it wasnt even the proper one (ie. the car the ECU came from)...I just typed that 'example' CB0M one in that is on the popup box lol!
I had to enter a VIN manually too...

Any way of checking shaft bearings without stripping the box apart?
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
Well all the gussets are done and here, along with the door bar blanks ready to be cut to the shape/angle of the door bars once ive done them.
The car itself has been messing me around over the past few weeks. High pitch squeeking from the cambelt...
My mates got a Corsa Redtop, he thought it was the fastest thing on the road until I had a few runs with him in my Valver.... semi-stripped 1.8 16v was on par with it, top end I got away...
My 172'd Mk1 just pisses all over it as expected, IMO a 1*2 would also. I had an encounter with a redtop...
Didnt you say you'd sold the bits/engine so you could have less power and learn to drive the car properly?
So why are you going from one 220-230bhp engine to another, lol.
