When I decided I wanted a Clio then it had to be a 172 Cup. I went looking for the cheapest none accident damaged one I could find as I knew I'd be changing most of it. Paid £2500 for mine with 93K on it.
Spent another 4K on building a fresh engine, box, suspension setup etc. and it should be...
Depends what you term as decent and what functionality you require. VEMS is a surprisingly accurate and very cost effective solution. Usual suspects of Emerald, Omex, Link, Motec etc. will all run it without a problem and probably do all that you requrie and more. Anything above that (i.e. Life...
Search! It's a filter out the bin I used because I couldn't be arsed to buy one for the old engine. It made 0.5bhp difference and inlet temps were within a few degrees of ambient..... in the middle of winter.

It doesn't need one and fully supports the standard breather setup but you can run one if you wish. I do as I dont need to meet euro emissions compliance and it avoids filling the inle manifold and throttle body full of oil mist ;-)

If you think a none standard exhaust is going to make any significant difference you're dreaming I'm afraid.
I don't even have a standard exhaust kicking about they rot that quickly ;). Whats on there is a K-Tec Stealth with a rattly mid section, what's going on is a Jetex centre box to...
Show me a proper race car than isn't running centre locks and doesn't have studs as the wheel fasteners and I'll show you a unicorn ;-)
Engineers use studs, accountants use bolts!

Yep if you have several batteries charged for the impact guns and can be arsed to work flat out you can have a 1*2 lump out of a Clio and on the floor in two hours.
If its prepped as a race car (as per the BPM X85) you can have an engine and box out in less than 30 mins. Thats with a two chap...
Lump done and ready to go back in.
Cams in (standard 428's):
Lump done with ancils on etc.
It's looking pretty good. All belts and seals have been replaced with new so it should have a good few years of life in it with no messing about required.

Plus gas the backs of the bolts as they'll be rusted up then buzz out with an airgun.
They come out fine but if all you have are hand tools you'll be struggling!

Yep I have a Kangoo engine mount on mine. As I've said previously I've got no data on if its stiffer/better/harder than a standard 172 mount - the only reason I chucked one on was that they were the same money and Diesel spec mounts are usualy a fair bit stronger than petrol mounts due to the...
Standard crank is fine for a naturaly aspirated engine making circa 290bhp and 9000RPM if well balanced. Arrows will do you a crank for reasonable money if needs be.

Yep that'll work fine. Some Nimbus heat shield material will work well and its very easy to shape....... or some Mylar if you're feeling mega flush! ;-)
Cheers
M
Nope the heat shield is the silver bit, the rest is just sound deadening/insulation. No need for anything in addition to that, also with how I've cut it the remaining insulation/shield is retained firmly on the standard fasteners.

I happen to have a Clio X85 cage thats going spare. Could be modded to make a fairly monty rear cage for a RHD Clio Road Car............. Kev you got my number?

Update from today.
Engine bay cleaned and prepped with some no longer required sound deadening removed , wheel arches cleaned and all suspension joints checked, various bits of engine cleaned and painted, gearbox cleaned up and checked + misc bits.
What's impressive is that at 100K...
You can get them out quicker - but whats the point in rushing ;-) Takes us just under an hour to engine out an X85 but then they're race cars designed to be taken apart quickly i.e. bulkhead loom connectors etc. etc.
That was with a good hour for a maccy d's lunch, plenty of coffee and my...
Erm... it's an air filter? ;-) Finished spec 1 Super Cup over Xmas and it was the only filter I could find (in the bin) so it went on for the trip to Leeds for Paul to Calibrate the Siemens.
It made about 0.5bhp difference in the end so it stayed on there during the cold weather. New engine...
Started at 11 This morning.
By 12pm
By 3pm
By 4:30pm
By 6 - gearbox off, engine ancils stipped, new engine back on stand to recieve cams etc. etc,
Will be cleaning up the engine bay tomorrow and getting a few bits ready for the new engine going in on Monday.
Also need to remember to...
Yep use a proper extraction tool, not a pikey made of chocolate one and it should come out without much of a fight.
Failing that drill, retap and use a nipple the next size up, There is enough material around the bleed hole to work with - be careful not to damage the seat though or the new...
Just spotted you've got a DL1 - whilst they're very much a club level logger and very limited in what they and the software can do it's still enough for you to get a few inputs into for temp logging etc. They logging rate (only 100hz) isn't really high enough for some engine and gearbox...
When was the fluid last changed? A lot of people complain of brake fade when they have 4 year old fluid thats full of water in the brake circuit!
Cheers
M
Yes I was supporting various bits of electronics package.
Make use of that data logging! As a minimum get some K-Types onto the sump, block, head, gearbox casing and idealy some temp sensing for fluids as well. This way you can see what temps are going where and what may be causing the...
I would have come and said hello but was absolutely snowed under for the most part mate. Those BTCC lads get their moneys worth!
The Clio is black, with a few stickers. No fancy colour schemes!
Do you run any sort of data logging on the car? If not then you need some! Not only because it'll...
