I wouldn't bother modifying the uppper plenum IMO.
Judging by previous explorations, the RS2 design seems to be the ideal setup - apart from it costs a few quid. Essentially modifying the plenum to be front mounted like ITB's you benefit from not dragging the cold air over and around a hot...
Sounds electrical if intermittent.
I'd get it in at a specialist in the first instance - putting an engine in, would be the last resort!
Edit: probably not related and I don't know if the clio has one, but I had a similar issue on my old vectra - was a faulty crank sensor.
AFAIK there isn't any mounting points in the front ISO wise.

The airbag module can be turned off using the renault clip system. I'd be suprised if a renault dealer would do this - but hey ho.
RS tuner module will also do it, I believe.

I have only ever had Sportlines with oem shocks before so my opinion is only based on that.
I'd say they are a good choice for lowz, ride and cost. Handling seems slighty washy on the rear but if you want a track weapon then you'll need to spend more anyway and seen as though the closest I get...
