i get that with mine actually.. it never seems to do it first thing in the morning after being sat on the drive all night, but when i leave work to come home after being sat in the carpark from 9 till 5 it seems to do it then??. strange.. only or a couple of mins & then it's fine.
Dell GX270s (ebay link at the top) make sure they havn't got X's on top of the capacitors!
as said above there was a major problem with them.
We had something like 500+ gx270s when they were new & literally hundreds have had the capacitors blowing which then needs M/B replacing, luckily most...
my advice would be to talk her out of it.
My mrs has one & hates the thing, battery isn't good & the touch screen buttons are very sensitive meaning until you are used to it you will call people accidentally. Also when friends have a look at it, they end up ringing people!

Just a thought, as a mate of mine had this (and it sounds similar to your problem) was a pain to remove, but got there...
^^ sounds like it could be a problem with the key or even the type of encryption being used.. (are you using the same as what the router is set up for? - WEP? WPA?)
and if not then you can buy a Denison Ice Link & plug it into the cd changer socket on the back of the HU.
then you can control playlists etc from the cd player or Steering wheel controls & charges the iPod too.. Works a treat, but cost a fair bit more than a tenner.
