Yep the strups can be removed there just stuck on you might find the colour is sligtly differet but a polish should get rid of the difference.
I'd go for the cheaper one £1k is a lot of cash but unless it trade you should be looking at £500 less private IMO.
Loony and GaryG have put...
The 1,6 is quick yep 110hp or so but a 172 is 166hp so there a big difference the 1.6 is nice quicker than the 1.4 just and with a bit more low down ower which I like but the 172 it would hev to be plus you get the sports suspension and better brakes.
I'd look at a Mk1 172 there not much more on insurance but it does depends plus you can pick a good one up for £4k I've sen ones with 100k or more for £3.5k and the engines will cope with over 200k without any problem as long as you service them.
The 1.6 16V was rarer than the 172 in this country.
It should only come on when turned on with the button or when you start if you leve it on when you last ran the car it should come back on. Sounds like a wiring issue in the head unit though.
You just remove the cover and unscrew the bold holding them on then shak them about to get them off.
Why do you need to get to the tank though is it damaged or something?
Just to clear up the import cars from Europe (cuprus excpted) have a 2 yr warently but you cna apply to Renault UK for the 3yr year its free you just need to send them a letter.
Good news though glad your cars working again.
I take it your don't already own a Clio?
I wouldn't worry much loads of people complain about the clucth being high if you've driven a Clio you'll know there never good.
Start with the brakes and suspension if you've no problems with the brakes then just get coilovers or matching dampers and springs then spend the rest on track days or save a fair bit more for more tunning (IMO).
Alarm isn't a problem. The radio will need to be recodes the number should in in your book.
However your problem won't be fixed I don't thin you've got a faulty abs sensor the only thing to do is pop down to Renault to get them to hook the computer to it and find out which one is wrong.
Oilman on here sells oil. The Silkline pro 5-40 is highly recomended.
There no halnes manaul for the 2.0's its all easy to do anyway just check levels chnage oil and filters and thats about it.
Castrol response super dot 4 from Halford if you can find it but its not cheap but you pay for what you get. The normal castrol stuff isn't bad I've had few problems.
It won't make a huge difference but it will give you an extra hp or 2 depends on youe engine. It will make it a bit lounder depends waht type of decat or sports cat you get the sound (decat is usualy louder).
Standard 172 hubs are 54mm spacing it depends what Clio ages you have Mk 2 pahse 2 ie triangular lghts all seem to run 58mm hubs. The Mk2 1 run a variaty the 1.2's run 52mm usually the 1.4's can run 54mm. There no hard and fast rule more of a better chance.
if you have 54mm hubs spacing then...
Standard cheap disks from Halfords or other places and halords pads aree fine I've been happy with them no insurance issues. Just stick some good brake fluid in and bleed the system.
If you want to upgrade do to ds2500 pads but I don't think you need them personally.
No you need the 1.8 16V mounts I think your present one at the back is similar but might as well upgrade there no good anyway so a worn one is even worse.
You'd be best upgrading to 1.8 suspension.
Wiring I'm not sure you'd need all the looms.
You need the clocks I think.
Best idea is to buy...
R5Gtt would be a better engine or a 172 transplant.
K-tec looked at a turbo kit for the 1.2 16V but they wee looking at £3k minus the pistonws which you'd need to get a decient amount of power (150hp). You can get all the stuff to do a 172 transpant for £1.5k + vat so its a waste turboing the...
Quite a few insuers accept 10 months policies as 1 yrs NCB but not all.
I'd go for the 12 month one ever time.
Thats a good price though I'm the same age and they want twice that much.
Just to clear up some things which which i don't like standing up for Renault I think they should be given a opdn and true view.
What you order a part from them if they have to order it in specially you have to pay for it. Renault can make mistakes orderin gparts so to be fair they should...
You need 172 suspension to fit the hube ir you ned to bodge the normal struts to fit but there not ideal. You need the calipers disks you also need the dashboard.
Depending on what spec your going for you need either the steaing rack or a shorter aux belt and remove the PAS pump. Radiator also...
Insuarance depends on the company.
Best idea is to buy thr whole R5 GTT and swop the engine etc rarther than the bits you need.
IMO the big brakes conversion isn't much better than stock not if your looking to track day etc if you want better brakes you need new calipers.
Some cars don't have the shift light working no idea why its Renault although they all should.
Then again its just a warning light you just have to learn when to shift up without loooking it just comes on 300rpm before the redline.
