Rich - Imo it's the tyres, I ran avons on my valver years ago, awful things tbh. God knows what my mate had on his gti, it really was ace though. I assume yours is 100% standard ?

My mates old gti handled so well as standard (it was quite new when he got it) no clio i've ever been in or driven was as good as that.

Imo you need to be prepared to travel. I've even thought of going to scotland before to buy a car (I live in essex) There are loads out there tbh. Cars in general aren't selling, personally I think that a bit after xmas people will sell.

I'm just speaking in general here, to me a car of the year should be one where things have changed on it over the year etc, not one that has remained the same since last year.
