It's not the low pad's themselves that bright the light on, iirc it's the lower level on brake fluid? Check the fluid level and the pad thickness' If the pads are low, replace, if it's still flickering, top up the fluid.

Sounds like you've mullered that top disc then. i.e the nut has seperated from the disc. Couple of new/second hand ones and you'll be away.

When the rubber "donught" thing spins, the nut should spin too, they are connected. Is the nut spinning up and down the thread? If it is, just whip a socket on it and do it up nip tight. That's how they should be.

I'm with mike. Get yourself all the parts from cliospares or similar and live with the light. Oh and keep vigilant in future ;-) MOT, either tell them it's a common fault and if they're having none of it either tape over or remove the bulb
