Aye...but by his own admission the extra 50bhp is unusable.
Sounds nice, looks like a professional set-up, but not for me.
£7,600 is halfway to a season racing a Caterham Academy car (which you keep at the end of it)...
^^^ I know, I know...pointless comment LOL
Had my K-tec Stealth fitted for a week now, and I still can't stop smiling :D . I've never had anything approaching a sports/aftermarket exhaust before, so my Cup's spent most of the last week between 5-8k rpm with windows down so I can enjoy it.
Can't see how I'll ever tire of it...what...
I had the 4k rattle for the last 40k miles, but not anymore.
I went for a K-tec Stealth, which is as quiet as most things out there when you want it to be, but it still howls at high rpm under full load.
Still got the 5k kick too...all in all, very happy :)
Just read the rest, and am a bit confused...
"...we expected more of the Clio on the West Circuit. Instead, like the new XK Jaguar, it's a car that's more impressive on the highway, where the subtleties of its chassis tuning can be fully appreciated.".
I thought the whole point of the...
"It's [Trophy] almost 10 seconds quicker than the [1.6 Sport] Focus but fractionally slower than the Clio 182 Cup...".
Different drivers on different days, or a reason for Trophy owners to be slightly miffed?
I'd say probably the first one?
Pad works OK for me too.
I can't work out why they f***ed up Brands :S - in TRD2 they had it bang on, all corners worked and the line needed was close to reality. In TRD3 though, you can take Graham Hill bend flat out, not even a throttle lift needed which is b****cks.
Castle Combe is...
Trying to keep it simple here...
Assume both cars accelerate at the same uniform rate
Assume that as car A (6.5s) reaches 60mph, car B is doing 55mph (8.0s)
Speed differential after 6.5s is therefore 5mph, so average speed differential over 6.5s would be 2.5mph
How far do you travel in...
When a load of us went to Janspeed recently, only 1 182/Trophy recorded higher ATW figures than 3 of the 172's that were there.
I think the extra 10bhp is a bit of marketing, nothing else - either the orignal 172's had nearer 180bhp, or the current 182's only have around 170bhp - why else...
Mine had an easy first 625 miles - since then it's been caned religiously on and off track every single day of it's life. Managed 57k so far with no related problems at all (it's been caressed by Mike @ RenTech every 6k miles from new), and it seems mine's quite a quick one.
I think you...
Love it!
Push the "big boys" out the way all day long - I live for that on track days :)
Nice driving fella, got get meself to Cadwell at some point this year.
^ Yep - B2 overspeed warning alarms at 80mph, but always runs 2-3 seconds behind actual speed.
If it's dry tomorrow I'll have another go...with the mount a bit higher to give a full view.
Finally got round to doing this, only the, ahem, pit lane was damp, so traction through to 3rd was tricky.
I reckon I hit 60 (63ish on the clock) in 7.1 on both runs, but got to 100 in 17.5 then 17.0.
Run1
Run2
I'm trying a set next on my Cup, I've never run anything other than standard Contis or Yoko A539's in standard 195 size before.
Will be interesting to see what they're like, especially as I'm going up to 205's and also cos I think (unlike 99.9% of people) that A539's are great!
I'm shocked you drive a 172 Cup with the radio on?
Us paupers only got the cheap 4x22w model so you can barely hear it anyway...I never bother...I just play "tunes" with my 2k-4k rattle LOL
You're being paraniod I think ;)
At 57k mine is totally different to what it was like at 30k. Throttle response is razor sharp, and it just seems to pull and pull and pull.
The fact that at Janspeed recently, only one (decatted) 182 recorded a higher ATW figure than my (very nearly) standard Cup might have something to do...
For road use - standard pads are fine.
Steer clear of Tarox Fast Road and Track pads though...I did one trackday on a set, and 1500 miles later they'd all but disappeared, and what pad material was left had cracks running through it.
I gave them one gentle session at Goodwood, and have been giving them death ever since.
Lots of smoke after the first session, but they've been consistant in feel and performance ever since.
I had a good run against a FQ340 at Brands last year. Held him off for a whole session early on, but by the end of the day once he'd dialled in, there was no way I could compete with his traction and grunt. Was a decent bloke too :)
He pops by here occasionally, mole something I think.
LOL @ Day ^^^
In my experience they're not driven by "drivers" - no matter what model every one I've come across on track without exception, I've gone past like it was stood still :)
I'd love an early 2.5 - just enough power so you have to really work the chassis to get the best from it.
I'm 6'1" with size 10 feet...heel/toe shifting is mo problem at all, either rolling the ball of your foot or actually using heel & toe...both work fine for me.
I think the pedal spacing's 100% spot on.
