So it's because the disks on modern cars don't float as a rule? Why don't more manufacturers fit floating disks then? Cost/complexity? Probably lack of demand?

Out of idle curiosity... I've had bikes over the years with drilled disks, and I know a lot of bikers also, and I've never heard of a drilled disk on a bike cracking. Yet everyone advises against drilled discs on cars as they crack. Is it because they're fully floating? Didn't BMW...

Try letting your car pull itself along in first or second gear, with no throttle, just tickover/idle. Then click the aircon on...it's like dragging the brakes. My old 306 would almost stop/stall when doing that before the ECU compensated for the extra load. Definitely takes the edge off.

The oil light comes on to indicate low oil pressure, not the level. The level's indicated every time you start up.
