I did in my 182 in the summer. It was definitely worth it for the passenger. Personally I didn't notice a huge differance as the driver.

If you completely remove the spacers the seat doesn't go back and forwards very easily. Just something to consider.

Problems tend not to get better unfortunately. Further damage (to other parts) is unlikely. To the column, if it's the bearings, motor, they might just give out one day but it would take a while. You'll likely have to repair before sale so it's best to bite the bullet and do it. Give it a go...

£2k should see you pick up something very good. As said, travel for the best ones. Get club membership and look in the classifieds, it's where the best bargains and best maintained cars are. Lots of people advertise there and nowhere else.
