Some of you may know that i decided to remove the Engine & Gearbox Last weekend.
I'm now going to look at removing the Gearbox and clutch so that i can fit the Engine onto the stand for clean up and change various parts.
Ive seen on the guide that it just looks like removing around 10 bolts...
i will start stripping it down on the stand this weekend and start cleaning the block and see if there any leaks to attend to. I think i will get the cambelt replaced too whilst its out to be on the safe side
Ive taken all the manifold nuts off and disconnected at the cat flange under neath the car but the manifold doesnt want to come off freely so was going to wait until i have a engine lift to support it and move it forward to ge the manifold off then try getting to the plug and nuts to disconnct...
Its the undoing of the fixing kit ive found a problem, got the first spring screw out but cant get the drivers one out. Just going to wait until ive got the engine out.
do you mean split the relay bases from the fuseboard or actually dissconnect the wires ? I havent looked into what can be done or can i unplug the relays and just split the bases from each other ?
Yeah i was looking at that yesterday, thats why i was wondering about supporting the gearbox. do i have to remove the mount to disconnect the PAS line ?
Yeah i will do that once i have bought an engine lift, lift it up abit and bring it forward a little so i can see behind the block and...
Ive started getting my Engine ready for removal bearing in mind i havent done it before and trying to follow guides on here to assist me.

Havent removed driveshafts until i have bought an engine lift ...
Thanks mate.
Looking at getting an engine delivered and i can be bothered driving down then the pain of trying to get it in a van !
any ideas how much a 172 engine weighs roughly without a gearbox ?
what about the wiring loom, ive disconnected the sensors from the block and also removed the ECU but i have the looms and fuse box relays all just above gearbox then it all seems to behind the manifold but i dont know if it can be disconnected as i cant see nothink !
yeah thats the one, i'm struggling as i'm trying to do it on my own :( . i managed to do the one on the right but thr right one is a rite pig !
Think i'm going to try lowering subframe and take the whole thing out !
is a pain !!!!!!!!!!
Mick do i need to remove the subframe to get the 172 manifold off ? ive undone the nuts but obviously theres no way to slide it out top or bottom as i cant get one bolt out of fitting kit !
if i i drop the subframe does the steering rack need supporting or summit ?
Just been searching and i know people drop the subframe to get a 182 manifold.
Will doing this allow me to get the 172 manifold out without trying to get the other bolt out the fitting kit ?
I removed the air con and alternator.
Ive undone all the manifold nuts but i cant get one of the bolts on the fixing kit, with the springs out from the the flange!

Ive disconnected the majority of it, ECU has been removed and fuse box removed.
The wiring loom seems togo behind the exhaust manifold but i can see behind and i cant get the 2nd bolt of the manifold flange meets the cat pipe

Do i need to remove this prior to removal of the engine ?
Got to fit a new PAS pump anyway once i get the engine on the stand
Will i benenfit by removing this first ?
