I had assumed it was more for stiffening the beam than than anything but then it begs the question can an anti roll bar bolted with U bolts and using drop links and bushes add stiffness to a beam? You’d imagine it’d move/flex way before the solid beam.
If that was the only requirement why not...
Can someone explain the reason for an anti roll bar and drop links connected to the same solid rear beam?
I’m no physics expert & prob being stoopid here but I’m struggling to see any benefit from the bar being clamped with U bolts to the beam and then the drop links being connected to...
Also, as I’ve seen them mentioned above...
Do any mechanics here have the sub compact Milwaukee 3/8” guns? If so, how do you find using them in the workshop?
I’m really tempted but just not sure on the stubby square end in practical use? Just thinking when you’re working in tighter spaces...
‘kin hell.
Could have done with one of those when I used to work on the lorries! Lugging around a 1” air gun wasn’t much fun. Used to knacker me every time I got back on lorries after cars! Even torquing a set of wheel nuts is more effort than most days in a car garage haha
Trouble with these cheaper lifts (even the two poster above) is they’re half height where you’d want.
I’ve only just realised that on the two poster so must tell a customer of mine. He reckons he found one for £1600 fitted, must be a half height
How are people getting on with the Milwaukee impacts?
Think I mentioned before I still have an old snap on 1/2” but the batteries are a bit of a pain now.
Only thing I don’t like on these modern impacts is the brake so they don’t coast. If I use the modern snap on one my workmate has I really...
Is that turbo any good? Love the ‘turbocharger’ label screams China.
I’m gonna moan to you about the poor car though, owner blames car for being unreliable yet it’s lack of maintenance :p
Yeah, watched this last night. Guy’s crazy (in the nicest way). Great business model though as he’s got many like minded customers who just trust his opinion of what works for similar minded people. Think he must do very well out of OG.
Did you see his civic video the other day where he...
From the 911 driver perspective... Is the other side of this one of those PistonHeads threads?
“I was driving to work in my porsche, it’s wet, terrible conditions. Then I’m just about to move to my exit lane when some lunatic...” :D
Given mileage is very important to some I’d imagine a wealthy chap would have no issue paying considerably more for this one then.
At half the mileage of that one it has to be £10k doesn’t it? Sounds crazy but must be given the mileage.
Lucky the belts have been done otherwise it’d only be...
Sorry, I meant a mk1 172 not a valver.
Valver is a terrible idea. One we had 15 years ago was rotten. I actually like the valver interior compared to a ph1 172
182 out of those for me.
I think the mk2 172 is the value sweetspot though. £3k there should get you a minter.
I’m not a mk1 clio fan at all though but get the appeal. I had a ph1 clio V6 and I’m not really one to usually moan about interiors but the ph1 steering wheel and dash just looked...
Exactly.
Customer of mine has a collection that’d amaze but most of the time he doesn’t even drive them, well he can’t as it’s not practical to but he is a serious enthusiast and we enjoy just standing, looking and talking about them almost as much as driving.
His goal is to buy a castle or...
I wasn’t really thinking just 5 years. Surely Renault haven’t made a new timing belt for a 172 for a long time have they?
Without doubt the biggest failure point on a 172/182 IMO is the aux belt or associated tensioner.
I’ve never actually seen a straight snapped timing belt on any car in...
Yep. It’s all opinion and the chap you quoted saying “anyone paying over £4K for one that’s not boosted” to me it’s the opposite.
I can see why they’re more money currently but in the future they won’t be.
It’s a bit like years ago 205 GTI with an mi16 engine swap would have been way more...
Anyone that’s bought a genuine Renault kit off eBay lately...
What’s the date stamp on the timing belt?
Just wondered how long some of these genuine belt kits have been around? I was going to get one myself.
As we know, after 5 years the rubber will implode and suck us all into a vacuum.
Yeah I do agree and if someone wants a track car they’ll know what they have to pay.
It’s probably the fact it was a rare colour, low mileage car that’s making things conflicted to me.
Prob would be worth strong money all stock but nobody wanting that car for what it was will buy it and nobody...
Don’t take offence...
but to me I don’t understand why these track cars are worth more than a road car.
In some way you’ve ruined the car to most of the market and asking twice the retail price.
Other marques, a stripped out, caged, bonnet pin’d version would be worth a load less. For some...
Wonder what thoughts are on mine.
Black 172 53 plate
125k
Totally stock and always has been (think I’m 4th owner & I got it off an enthusiast for them std about 10 years ago)
Huge service folder
Original paint and no rust
Original stereo etc
Original supplying dealer plates
Now, it is due...
I think there’s some ambiguity in your description about the non start.
When you say the starter is working as you can hear it clicking.
Do you mean it’s turning the engine over normally or it’s not turning the engine over and you can just hear a click noise when u turn the key?
Not sure if he does directly but the process I saw the other day showed the majority here get bought up and shipped to huge refining places in the US.
Was just pondering how much the end refiner must be getting considering middle men are paying so much.
I did watch a vid from some bloke that...
It’s amazing how valuable the 172 cats are, if Tommy pays £450 makes you wonder what the refiners are getting out of it at the end.
But you think, he buys at £450 and will no doubt get a whole one of those big white bags full (from what I’ve seen of the cat buyers on YouTube) and be able to...
I did laugh at the ‘pervert’ in the title. Whoever posted that norm video in the vid thread is responsible for us all (in the accent) greeting each other with “hello perverts!” at the garage I work at
