You sure you've got the correct springs ? They don't need compressing , just drop the rear beam down pop in the springs . Might help if you put a pic up of the springs you have.
I think it's just the pic that makes them look like they're plastic. The ones in my 182 were the felt type you mentioned , I had the same felt type in my 172 also.
Like @Vaughan said . They're made of some felt like material , and they're pretty s**t and can split. You'd be better off buying something like this flexible neoprene tubing . Work out what size you'll need diameter wise . Just an example below...
Ahhh yeah you're right . They're oval on the airbox end and round on the other end . On the oval end there are like some little lugs that sit inside the holes to hold them in place . If you get the right size tubing they should be able to sit inside and not fall out . Or you could put up an ad...
Big oval one runs to the acoustic valve , smaller round one is just an air feed iirc . I think the smaller round one is 50mm , you can use a round one on the oval side , you'll obviously just have to make it fit . Some people remove the acoustic valve altogether .
Maybe it's something to do with your battery being knackered ? Why it went flat in the first place ? I know you said you jump started the car and charge it , maybe it's not holding a charge so causing something weird with your alarm / hazards . Just a thought .
I've got 2 front J&R rings fitted , they've been fine . If you try and get the old rings off , who's to say they won't be slightly out . You're only splashing out £2.25 each ? , worth trying them in my opinion.
Sounds like alot of faffing about for a Rusty ring ?You've got new discs , you might as well stick on some new rings . Cheap as chips .

I've just been and reset the wipers on both sides , it wasn't sweeping the whole winsdscreen , it still isn't , but its better than it was . I guess there's an art to setting the wipers in the rest position and how far it sweeps across the windscreen .
Auto is working but a bit temperamental and...
I'm not sure if thats the same . But I know a couple of people who have used a service were they ended up being paid out for the car , got to keep their cars and also got paid out for injuries.
Push for as much money as you can . Their first offer is likely to be on the low side . Look for 197's with similar mileage around £3500 . There are a few on Gumtree , have a look on autotrader too . If you get a few examples to show the insurance then you have a stronger case ...
Bit of an update . I took the mechanism and motor out. There's alot of play in the mechanism on the right hand side . I've reset the passenger side wiper so theres no play in that now . Still no fast speed so I'm guessing either stalk or motor ?
I don't think thats too bad of a price supplied and fitted . The guys gotta make some money at the end of the day . I've been using TRW pads for the past couple of years and really rate them . They last ages , good bite from cold and never fade when I'm having a spirited drive.
I'd taken the nuts off to soak them windscreen wiper splines in Plus gas. I've been out tonight , auto would wipe sometimes twice then stop then sometimes 4 times then stop . Then all of a sudden Auto is working , position 1 slow wipe is still working but when I move it to position 2 fast wipe...
I noticed this yesterday when it started to rain a little bit .
In the auto position , it wiped as normal then suddenly stopped then started again after a few seconds . In Position 1 , the slower speed it works fine , wipes and never stops . When I put it in position 2 , faster speed nothing at...
If I have to replace 2 tyres , I usually put them on the front first , for about 1500 - 2000 miles then swap the rears to the front . If you do it this way you prolong the life of the tyres . I only do this though if the rears still have decent tread depth though . If you put new tyres on the...
