No they won't. Not the standard ones. Mine never have. As long as the BS mark and the postcode are on, and the text is legally spaced and the right font, they're legal.

Coilovers are probably the best way as you can raise/lower the height to suit your needs. Obviously, these are going to be a little more expensive than a set of springs, but worth it IME.

If you check their website, they tell you their standard plates are legal. http://www.fancyplates.com/aboutus.html You can 'customise' plates which are not necessarily road legal.
