Well the AG has had a full service :spanner: at the grand mileage of 48,548. It now also has some redline mtl oil in the gearbox as well.
As of now, I am officially unemployed.........until the 3rd of October when I start at sytner BMW. Really excited to get started there now!
Last night was my...
Well the wobbly shaft is most likely because the tripod joint on the end of the shaft has failed. That means a box full of needle rollers and a lot of damage I would imagine.
You're in for a full rebuild or fit a replacement box mate. I can help you out with a rebuild if you're stuck.
@SharkyUK I'm sure it will all come good in the end. Try and get some pics of the bird s**t stains if you can - I ain't no detailer, but I've recently resurrected my daily golf, so I've a very good idea of what you can get away with if you use the right combo.
Strengthening the rear beam will help with flex, but I'm sure it's designed to reduce deflection more than anything, and reduce geometry changes.
Running a thick rear arb is THE way to do it. The reason why most people run stiffer rear springs with the Ast coilovers, or any rear coilovers for...
Nah that was the original engine mate. The hybrid was dialled in on the standard marks. I've got a cam tool for the 197/200's but you also have a different cam to fit. It ain't 'cheap' horsepower either if you get me!
Already been in conversation mate! Lol!
@bashracing is the man to confirm details on the 5.25 ratio as I built it into his sprint racing box.
@Russ Rallye runs/ran a 13/59 so can advise accordingly for that one.
I'll take a pic of my workbench later on. Essentially, it looks as if someone's thrown a tool grenade on it. Lol! But, and this is the most important thing, I know where everything is. 😂
It can be done, but it'll be horrendous in every way shape or form. The ports don't match up in a month of Sundays. Trust me, I looked at doing it a long time ago.
If you want a 197 inlet, fit the head and pistons from a 197.
If in any doubt, get it replaced. If it's been done on the cheap by someone with no idea, there's almost definitely some lost horsepower to be found!!
Whereabouts are you in the world?
No problem mate. Tbh, it's the idler rollers that will fail before the belt snaps. Belt failures are a thing of yesteryear in terms of snapping, it's always something else that causes them to snap.
Let me do some digging when I'm at sytner mate and I'll find out the full gen on them. I was looking for an Msport f series tourer, so i looked into all the timing chain s**t myself. Not so important now I'll be able to hand one back every 6 months! Lol!
Ah that's not so bad then.
It was only the 07-08 plates that had the snapping issues mate, and most, if not all were sorted under a recall. The rest of them wear the plastic chain guides, but they become audible when they're worn. 20k service intervals don't help this - nor the turbos as they're common for failing. The...
