Just make a fresh earth point mate and make sure the metal is clean. Mines earthed out in the thread for the passenger side seat belt and I have no issues. The size of the cable will also have a big impact on the cranking speed.
Your issue is that you're running 280's mate. On a cup turini the spokes are fatter at the base, so this means that because the caliper is sitting lower it interferes with your spokes. Make sense?
I'll be running 295's and my turinis are now very close to the spokes - on 300's there's plenty...
If you can measure the dci ones you've got now, I'll measure up the 2 172 steering rods that I've got mate. That way we will know 100% which ones you need.
