One thing to note about Escorts and their 5/6 link suspension as this was a homologated modification under the group 4 regs at the time.. Like you say though its a massive grey area, the chances are unless someone puts in a dispute against you and your car Is inspected you will more than likely...
Hi Guys,
I've got a Race Tech Dash 2 digital display in my car, it's been in a while now but only just got round to setting up the fuel guage. The instructions say you have to wire in a pull up resistor for the 5v reference so I used a 1k resistor but I don't seem to be getting bugger all...
Does anyone know where the ESP is configured/turned off on a 172? eg: UCH, ABS module, ECU etc.
I have one car with ESP and one without, I want to remove the ESP from one car using parts from another as I have an intermittent fault with the ESP (which is useless so no point in keeping it)...
Hi Guys,
What companies are the cheapest for Wossner Pistons, Catcams, Supertech Valves?
Has anyone had any experience of these PEC valves? http://www.performanceenginecomponents.com/Products/Product.asp?id=251078
Cheers
Mike
As Dan says wishbone kit is a waste of time, more often than not the standard wishbone takes the sub frame with it when It bends. Its worth while double skinning the underside of the sub frame and stich welding. That way the wishbone will bend like its meant to and in a bad crash the sub frame...
Hi,
Does anyone know if you can permanently disable the ESP on a 172? by permanent I mean turn it off on the ECU/UCH etc with no light on the dash.
Cheers
Mike
Hi Guys,
Recently picked up another 172 but it has a very odd issue where the ESP starts cutting in randomly when driving. Normal driving conditions so no loss of grip etc. it's very odd and pretty dodgy when it starts cutting in.
Has anyone experienced anything like this before?
MG cup I use the same eBay fans as you. I have twins but only 1 is used for normal running. The other can be manually turned on via a switch and is also activated by a second fan output on the ECU set at a higher temp incase the main fan fails.
I use the mk3 golf rad on my rally car, just had some dowles welded on the bottom to suite the subframe and standard rubber mount also had a 45 degree angle welded on the bottom outlet. Cost about £180 all in including the rad. It holds quite a bit of water and keeps the car nice and cool.
Id...
That's what I was trying to avoid lol, was just going to see what people had done before and subtract a bit off for a safety margin. If it comes down to it I'll have to do a dry build.
I haven't yet no, will order everything I need at the same time. If the valve seats are in good condition can...
I don't really want to go any wilder as that will mean revving the motor more which decreases reliability and you loose low end power.
Its all well and good having lots of power but when you don't finish a rally because your engine has blown all the power you had was useless. I want to keep...
Was that with high comp pistons Fred or just a head skim?
Danny I've got 90mm trumpets atm, would you recommend 120mm trumpets instead?
So what's the general consensus, 438's or 421's?
Thanks for the offer Cub but I want new cams really.
What sort peak revs would I be seeing with 421's, Don't really want to rev it past 7.5k if I can help it. Do the badly effect low down power when running them with ITB's? Are they running on the limits of valve to piston clearance or can I...
Hi Guys,
Ive already got ITB's on my rally car but im going to be taking the head off soon to fit some uprated valves and though about adding a set of cams to get a bit more poke at the same time.
What sort of power would I be looking at with 438's and a head skim? I dont want to go for...
I've just picked up a very cheap megane 225, the main issue it has is it pulls badly to left under acceleration and braking, it also has a vibration coming from the front passenger side brake (like warped discs) the previous owner had the discs and pads replaced only a 1000 miles ago as that...
I'm sure there was a mention of Sandy Brown redoing the map though.. He prefers to go the torque route from what i've heard with these motors so may have been mapped for torque rather than out and out HP? I'm sure Ian can shed some more light on what Sandy did with the map.
Bloody hell Ian, brown pants moment there. What stage was that on? We had a similar moment in trinity coming out of hairpin when my mate decided it would be a good to use all 300hp's in his BM, bounced up and down the banks for a good 20m lol!
Yep it's the map you sent me Phil, runs spot on, so much better than the one I had before. It might be fine but I'd expect to see some sort of colour on the plugs but there is pretty much nothing, but also no greyness that would indicate full on lean running. Will have to get myself an AFR gauge...
It runs a narrow band at the moment, am I right in saying that the lambda sensor has no effect at WOT?
The map on it is good, runs really nicely and was done by someone who maps BTTC engines, but I think my motor is just a bit fresher and has a better flowing exhaust than the car it was mapped...
The map came on the ECU and was mapped for a standard engine like i have so i would not say that it was dangerous to drive. If it was running dangerously lean the plugs would be grey but they are not, im just not getting the coffee brown colour you would expect to see. I will more than likely...
Are there any simplish adjustments that can be made within the ECU calibration to richen the AFR? Have my car running nicely on a map, revs cleanly with no hesitation or splutters but I'm not quite happy with the colour of the plugs and think it could do with a little more fuel throughout the...
Where did you go off Ian? Conditions were horrendous on Friday, was only naving this year but was a really tough rally. We got shafted by the time keepers as well so your weren't the only one.
How much did those Lazer lights set you back btw? I've heard they are really good.
It was definitely leaking from the seal it was obvious as the only rear wet area was directly under the crank leading from the seal. Im still not convinced about this seal though, ive done some measuring and the seal is going to be pretty close to the back of the sealing surface from what i can...
Hi guys,
Just fitted a crank seal to a motor last night and think I may have pushed it to far in, will it still seal properly when it's level with the surface of the carrier?
