TRACK TROPHY 381 – PROGRESS TO DATE

Yeah they definitely transform the drive of the clios. You might need to up the spring rates though on the asts mate if your solely using it on track.

    Suspension p**n

Well they helped to take my car around the nordschliefe in 8:31 mate, so they'll be plenty good enough for UK roads. Tbh I loved them to bits and sometimes wished I'd upgraded to the custom kw's instead of the ast's.

TRACK TROPHY 381 – PROGRESS TO DATE

Nice to see @Ph1 Tom 's parts being used on another track car. If you have any issues with the hubs get in touch mate. They're my brainchild. Lol!

You'll not go far wrong with kw's mate. Awesome in EVERY way. The ride quality of my v2's was exceptional.

Breaking cover......*AG content from page 45*

Well still waiting on overnight parts so I decided to drop the coolant and make a start on getting the engine and box ready to lift out. Also had a chance to offer the new smaller ally rad up to see what mounts I need to fabricate. You can see in this shot some of the mods to the slam panel for...

Please lend me your ears. (le gearbox)

Definitely diff bearings imo. It's w**k that you have to crack the box open to change them.

Exhaust ports are the same as the 182 heads mate. Small!
  8. NorthloopCup

Is it time for a new gearbox?

Yeah it should do mate. The holes are in diff itself so those holes won't be there anyway.

Is it time for a new gearbox?

The majority of the rollers will be inside somewhere then probably clinging to the magnet inside. The cup is essentially the same mate, it's the plate and casing of the diff that's not, due to having 4 holes drilled and tapped in it to hold the plate secure. You should be fine to try it...

Breaking cover......*AG content from page 45*

@EVOgone heres some comparison shots of the 2 heads. Inlet ports only as the exhaust ports are identical in position. 172 inlet port: Lower down in the casting and not as wide as the 197 port. The head is upside down in this pic. 197 port: Slightly higher up in the casting and substantially...

Have you seen the difference between the 1*2 and 197 ports though? In fact what head are pms running? Is it a 1*2 one? I've just had a watch of that video you mentioned about in your pm as well. Interesting results.

Is it time for a new gearbox?

How many metal filings came out when you dropped the oil mate? I imagine they've all been quite well chewed up by now tbh so any damage is already done. Fit the other diff cup and run it mate. It's not ideal, but if the box is now fucked it'll show itself reasonably quick. If your wanting to...

Is it time for a new gearbox?

Are you wanting to fit the 182 diff into your gearbox then? No speedo drive gear on the 182 diff for a start and you can't just fit the part that bolts in either unless you drill and tap your original diff. It's not something I'd do tbh. Your better off getting the renfort plate off eBay and...

    Nurburgring Clio Crash

Must've been a split arse in the Clio. They don't check their mirrors for anything other than makeup.

Agreed. The big hp duratecs are running 52 or 54mm butterflies just to get the transition right, which is where the 197 inlet ports are similar in terms of size. The Ashford f4r on YouTube is also running 50mm butterflies, possibly bigger.

Lol afraid not mate. Tomorrow apparently. Got the oil cooler lines and fittings though yesterday.

Breaking cover......*AG content from page 45*

Needs 50mm butterfly's to get the maximum out of itb's/this spec ideally, and it's only 45's available off the shelf. It's all about the transition/taper from the butterfly to the valve face, with the optimum being around 7 degrees. You can't get that with 45's unfortunately. A mate of mine who...

Race exhaust manifold - primary lengths

Its the longer primaries mate. The Clio 197 R3 maxi and maxi evo manifolds have huge primaries in terms of length. The collector will have some effect on performance but nowhere near as much as the lengths. I can measure my pms one if you like?

    No worries mate.

    Dr Jekyll's Ph1 172 Progress Thread

I'd would definitely fit a set of arp's mate. It's added security and peace of mind, plus it's much easier to do when the engine is out of the car. I'm just a bell end mate. That's why I never bothered fitting any in my standard engine.
  21. NorthloopCup

    No second gear

Sorry mate I've not got the time to do the swap unfortunately. It was more of a suggestion for you to have a spare in stock really.

    Dr Jekyll's Ph1 172 Progress Thread

Yeah definitely. 100% agree with that.

    Dr Jekyll's Ph1 172 Progress Thread

My original engine has been seeing 8k on standard everything...............for quite some time now. Lol! No arp rod bolts either! New engine will/should/better (delete as applicable) see 8k safely.

@MrTom let me know if you want your original box stripping down for a full diagnosis. I have some 2nd hand parts available to do the repairs.

Yeah it'll be reet. Like you say though, just take it steady.
  27. NorthloopCup

    No second gear

If it lost all 36 needle rollers, that's the main diff bearing that failed. I would imagine that when they were floating around inside the box, there were a fair few of them getting between gear teeth and wreaking havoc tbh! It could easily force the shafts apart and damage the casing without...

    No second gear

Yeah it'll be fine mate. Just give it a bit in 1st gear then bypass 2nd and go straight into 3rd. Easy as that.
  29. NorthloopCup

    No second gear

It's the dog gear on the gear itself that's come adrift mate. Very easy repair to do but it does mean the box needs to come apart. Your looking at about £160-£170 in parts though just to do that particular job. I know these gearboxes intimately! Lol! It's demise has definitely been caused by...

Gearbox nearly finished now. :nomouth: Ok, so maybe that's not a jc5, but it's as equally unreliable. Lol! Got a full strip and refresh to do on this, then refit it. 9hrs of fun. I thank you. In jc5 129 news I'm waiting on back order parts to arrive overnight from Tokyo. Allegedly. So nothing...
