Re: E36 v2
What's the diameter of the pistons on these? Only reason I ask is that you could make a compressor out of nylon and it's a easy material to work with. I had to make one up at work one night on the hurry up for a scania v8 diesel engine. Worked like a dream! You can buy either nylon...
Re: 'Cub's Trackday Flamer - Cage etc'
I was pissed up when you text last night - hence the late reply this morning! Lol! Looking good Cub. (The car not you!!)
There isn't a noticeable enough of a difference to bother with mate. Literally a qtr of a turn on the ride height adjusters is enough to alter corner weights.
IMO and IME, yes mate. The original battery cable from the alternator/starter motor has a fused link on it as standard anyway, so if you free some of the cable up out of the loom and get a longacre battery through panel, you can retain this in the engine bay side should you wish. I'd still run a...
Re: Road/Track 172
neil a remember to lube and clean the rose joints and uniballs mate! The salt will cause pretty much instant damage otherwise unfortunately.
How did you find the car on your blast handling wise? Also, looks to have a lot of rake on the picture above? Or is it the angle of...
Yeah I run on them and they only catch due to et35 15's. They touch on the inner part of the rear arch tub, but that's under full compression. Other than that there's the front end where they all catch mate. Good performance though so I'll accept a compromise.
My car is very low though so on...
Oh dear mate, that's going to be expensive to buy all the parts from Renault!! I got quoted about £400 and that wasn't including bearings or seals!! It's hard to tell what condition they're in from that picture mate as they don't look at all bad. The ones I've seen have been nearly flat across...
The common crunching is either of the two items I mentioned mate tbh. You'll definitely be able to see if the teeth are fucked or if it's the synchro that's worn. The teeth should be coffin shaped and pointy at the end. If they're rounded over, they've seen their best. The synchro ring itself...
About 142 iirc. Ideally you want a cup gearbox mate. I have no problems at the nurburgring with mine and I'm in doing 8min 31 laps.
Yeah gear cluster should be identical. Just remember not to swap the crownwheels and pinions about as they're matched as a pair. You'll need bearings possibly...
Depends how often you use the car tbh. If you use it all year round, the pms kit isn't for you unless your going to religiously clean and lubricate the spherical bearings. That's what I do with all the spherical bearings on mine.
The helper springs are there to stop the main spring from dislocating from the spring seats when the dampers are at full droop. I would advise that you don't remove them tbh.
I have the bearing kit fitted to mine. Good bit of kit and does exactly what it should do. I can't see any reason why the powerflex bushes wouldn't work either tbh. Main thing to look for is that the stainless steel insert doesn't eat into the bush material itself and allow movement.
Phase 1 box has speedo drive and higher final drive. Known as jc5 089. The cup and phase 2 172 box has the same ratios and also have speedo drive. The later phase 2's had the box with a speedo drive, but used abs for speedo operation. This is known as the jc5 129. 182's have the jc5 130 that has...
