Try and get yourself a phase 1 head and cover if you can. They've got bigger exhaust ports as standard so should help the engine breath a bit better. Look in the for sale section mate or on ebay. They regularly come up.
It depends on how bad the scoring is, but in terms of it being a race engine I'd say yes. You can always get the cam cover/head line bored, but that's gonna cost some serious wedge. Plus you've got to find a machine shop that can do it.
Failing that you need to polish the cam journals to...
Apologies, the cup is 20mm wider overall so that would only be 5mm on the hubs and 5mm in the difference in the offset with the turinis! Not 10mm like I put in the above post!!
The cup is 20mm wider per side than a normal 172 at the front. That was 10mm on the hubs and 10mm on the turinis. 10mm on the hubs is next to nothing though so I'd doubt it would stand out a massive amount. I can't personally see that the castor alone would require the longer shaft either. I've...
It's not something I'd want to try. It could knock it out of balance which would wreck it within no time really. How much are we talking needs skimming off it out of interest?
You have to drill and tap the 1*2 block to the 197 bolt pattern. Sump change as well iirc. Biggest question is why though? They're on par with their reliability issues to the 5 speed tbh.
On my first ever 'ring trip we were unfortunate enough to be following a guy on a bike who hit the armco and died instantly as a result of it. Because we were the first car on the scene we got held by the police whilst they carried out a full investigation. Luckily for us we had a camera in the...
I've got my bonnet held on with 4 of these after I cut the entire skin out. Saved a good amount of weight from chopping it all out as well.
Measure twice cut once is the key! Lol!
Drill and tap the block to accept the jc5 box, plus the sump needs to be swapped to the 1*2 one. There are other little niggly bits that need messing with as well. Straight forward enough to do if you've got the know-how and tools though.
Is it pole position your fitting mate? If so, excellent choice sir!! I have 2 in my track car and the journey to the 'ring is sublime!! Got to be one of the most comfortable bucket seats I've ever sat in.
I had t1r's on one of my cups and wasn't keen on them. In the rain or damp there was no confidence at all. In the dry the issue was that the sidewalls are to soft. They did however get me around the nurburgring in 8:49 so not to bad all considering.
I currently run hankook s1 evo's now and...
I run 2.5 degrees camber on the front, as much castor as possible (using Ast top mounts) and about 15-20 minutes of toe out. Handled like a dream at the 'ring last year and has remained unchanged for this very reason.
I also run less toe in on the rear as well. Keeps things nice lively that...
It's the tyre that rubs on the rear bumper mate. It's where the rear bumper wraps around and comes to a point if that makes sense. My mates 182 was on cup turinis and gaz suspension, and under acceleration it rubbed from the weight transfer. Once the rear was raised and the dampers stiffened it...
172 cup turinis rub on the rears if fitted to a 182 and it's lowered excessively. They fit fine other than that.
Chip - you are correct by what your saying.
I had a exhaust like that once upon a time!! From damons roundabout down to the next made my ears ring like mad!! Drive to the ring was horrendous as well. Even hurt my ears with earplugs in!!
Excellent results from the mapping though mate!
Cup front hubs are specific to the cup as far as I know. That's one of the ways they increased the track width over the standard 172. Are you sure the bolt is not removable? I've snapped one before and removed it without any dramas.
Re: James/BigAsh 182 Race Car by TDF... It doesn't get much better than this! *Pic He
When you put your stickers on the car use soapy water in a spray bottle!! It will allow the sticker to be moved to the correct position and for all the air bubbles to be squeezed out. When it's dry the stick...

Remember me saying At donington that I wasn't able to go the ring this year, well its gonna happen!! Only for 2.5hrs though one Friday though! Lol! A group of us are going to spa for the f1 and the ring was to...
Yeah got some on my phone that I can upload to flickr, then on to here. Be warned though, the quality of the roof vent is shite! It's a typical Motorsport part!! Look at the one on driftworks as well. It's a nice bit of kit.
