update
Picked up the car from Blackburn this morning and good news, it’s all good. Paintwork and engine/running gear seem in good order.
Looks like the damage was rear end as there has been a panel welded in but looks like it has been done well. Starts, runs and drives - so all good so far...
Here’s some more pictures. Not exactly sure why it’s gone like that to be honest.
But any suggestions on how best to fix would be great.
I am thinking dash out, sand back, then prime and respray might be the best way to go. Thanks

So spoke to the owner and car and classic. All of the information they have including v5 says it’s a cat d rather than a c which is good news.
Also it’s had clean mot’s since 2021 albeit not done a lot of miles. I am gonna take a sizeable chance on it. If it works out great, if not, sure...
Agree on the caliper pins. Mr pink pins is doing the ones with a clip which makes the whole pad changing experience much easier
Plus with the recommendations above.
For track use I have run rc8’s and pbs race on the rear.. not changed the rears in about 10 race weekends and loads of meets on...
So I have had an offer accepted for it £8k plus a few hundred quid to car and classic which seems an absolute steal to be honest.
However I ran a quick hpi check / report enclosed and it’s come back with a few items
https://www.vcheck.uk/report/M568KBO-W2KMJ19
1. Current owner has had it 1...
Now onto the dash.
What have people done to remove the tacky and blue paint coming off? Assuming I will need to remove the dash and repaint?
And any ideas why it goes like this?
Hi all, spotted this on car and classic and it looks pretty reasonable price wise. I know it’s a cat d but it’s also donkey years old so to be expected to a degree and it’s had a respray.
Anyone know this car? Or any details on it?
Thanks...
Ah good advice. I will send some better pictures and videos this week. As I just took the pic from Google rather than my car..
I am pretty sure if I start using any sprays or cleaning the paint will just come off..
Hi all, just starting to do some light refurbing of my phase 1 172
The top dash is blue but it’s very sticky and the paint is coming off when you touch it.
Any ideas or suggestions how best to clean it up? I am thinking removing the dash / degreasing it and then a respray. As the paint is...
Hey all, Gavin has kindly sold me his phase 1 172. Super easy to deal with just how car sales should be
Car is in great ship and drove well on the 160mile trip home last night to Bristol.. will give it a clean tomorrow and then planning to get the arches done over the winter, take the interior...
The napa alternators are meant to be rubbish and means the car doesn’t run well certainly under load. Worth changing for a second hand one.
I did try one in my racecar and quickly binned it off
This is awesome. I watched that auto Alex video and was like yes I want a Williams Clio and then saw loads which were worse than the titanic or the price of a 911, but lack the budget or know how of how to fix one
Good luck with it and post lots of pics..
Thanks all, this is super helpful. I didn’t realise that it had been for sale for a year plus, that says quite a bit
Also the non phase 1 parts aren’t ideal..
I think I will take a punt and buy a 200k one for cheap and fix it up from there.. at least I know what I am getting into.
Thanks
Hi all,
Found this phase 1 in my search for one and this seems a bargain in the current market. It’s had the sills, arches and belts done plus a respray

Am I missing something or do you think as it’s...
Yep agree with this - get the Jon fonz mounts and the trendlines or similar..
Steering wheel is a good addition too and then get a nice exhaust on it and pound for pound you can beat them..
So here’s my view after and still owning a lot of Clio’s namely phase 1 172, 182’s, 197, 200 and then a 220 trophy
In my view for a weekend and track toy a 182 is the best in my opinion. They feel and drive much better than a mk3 / noise and enjoyment from driving is better
A mk3 is quicker...
Ok thanks. Standard is 5w-40 which is what I am using.. will have a read about Fuchs titan race..
Would the temperature at the weekend made much of a difference ?
Hi mate, I use Jerry cans all the time for my racing.. to save the hassle and make sure I run the exact fuel I want I just use a measuring jug like this… https://www.demon-tweeks.com/uk/b-g-racing-flexible-nozzle-fluid-pouring-jug-7001933/
Makes it much easier.
Hi all,
I have a Clio 200 which i race in the Clio sport championship. They are basically standard cars with race pads, cage, spax dampers and a black line diff. Everything else is standard
My car is a 53k motor and had arp Conrod bolts at the start of the season with the oil changed after...
I had this on my rear caliper.. in essence it needs a caliper rebuild. The cover is all twisted so won’t seal properly. Best to get a new caliper or rebuild it…
Here’s what mine looked like
What an absolute cluster f….
Definitely be onto beanie sport until they get it fixed. That’s just poor unless there is a genuine reason it’s now drinking more oil which there isn’t….
For info - My 182 before it decided to explode the Conrods at snetterton mid quali never drank that much oil...
We race there in the 750mc and last year in my 182 which is basically a stripped out car with spax dampers (not great), ecu with a basic map on it, standard brakes except carbon Lorraine pads and 888r’s I did a 2:02.8 in Quali.
Definitely more time in it and if we were on stickier tyres a 2:00...
