No worries lol want me to call over on Friday or Sat only if your not busy I'm not in a rush, plus might see if we can find out why my drivers side sounds like something is rubbing on the disc or the caliper is sticking on. Got some calipers coming off Ph1 Tom so hopefully once they are cleaned...
Thought so just wanted to check what's the best or easiest way would you recommend if it's too much faffing about I may get you @bloke to do them when I change my brake fluid. Always find it better to watch a job being done so I know for next time then.
I'm hopefully going to be refurbishing a set of calipers and painting them. I was just wondering how to stop all the fluid coming out as with the standard rubber hoses you just clamp them but I have braided hoses on and wondered if I clamp them will it ruin or cause a weak spot in the braid...
You can buy a stud kit but as far as I'm aware all Clio's have bolts. On the torque setting I haven't a clue other than to think it would be the same as if you were using the standard bolts into the hub.
@Ph1 Tom I'm just nipping out so wont be near my computer for about 2 hours, if you send me your Paypal and I can get the payment sent asap when I'm back in.
Think it was about 42nm on the torque wrench but I didn't have any new bolts so had to use a few half nuts and just nipped the last one up to 42 (ish) and then gave it another half a turn and all has been well.
Is that posted @Ph1 Tom? I just need to check and make sure that it is the caliper that's causing the squeak on my car (sounds like the disc is warped but not getting any vibration), If i find it is my caliper would yours be ok to use while i 'tinker' with mine and have a go at refurbing them...
Mine did this after replacing passenger CV boot knocking noise only when steering I thought it was because i pulled the drive shaft out a little lol but it slid back in fine, couldn't tell what it was until I went over a members on here (Thanks @bloke) and put it on a lift and then seen the...
Good read and starting to come along, wish you luck in restoring it to its former glory. I'm also thinking of a Trophy myself never had a Clio until I bought a track 172 cup in Novermber and really liked it and fancied a Trophy hoping that with the little mileage I do it should hold its value...
I'm on the lookout for some CHEAP calipers to have a bash at refurbishing for my PH2 172 track car and was wondering if they are all the same throughout the 172/182 and cup/non-cup cars or even PH1 if they will work on a PH2. Helps widen my options if they all fit.
Thanks guys.
I've emailed 3 people about Clio Trophys I'm looking at the last few days and only one got back to me saying better if you call me and didn't even leave his mobile lol. Just general enquiries about condition/service history and also who did what work. Dunno why people can't just reply so I could...
To be fair I don't think there is many places left other than the likes of Demon tweeks that have a display majority of stuff is mail order plus I wouldn't have a clue near Portsmouth I'm near Manchester/Liverpool
Although never say never lol if I had one I may take it for a Sunday lap round a track purely to compare it to my cup of course haha gently though.
Hardest thing is ACTUALLY deciding what I want as I've always just thrown whatever car I have in against what I wanted and never had this long too...
Nah I wouldn't sell the track one lol have too much fun in it and it's mine and my dad's and he wouldn't want to sell unless we got something bigger/quicker. If I had a trophy it would be my daily and be looked after for what you can pick a 1*2 up for it wouldn't be worth risking the Trophy in...
Was that the one at Blokes unit? I went out in one the other day that was there, he had a look at a problem I was having, threads stripped off my ball joint where it bolts to the wishbone. All sorted.
What's the spec on it @Chi original or tinkered with lol and PM me a price if you want.
Lol I'm just waiting for them to get back to me.. Insurance is only £400 on Go Compare hoping to get a quote off Greenlight as they do my 172 Cup as a 2nd car with 0 NCB for £280 and i have 7-8 years NCB to use on the Trophy and with the Mileage I do should be a decent price.
The first one just...
I have messaged them both what do you guys think? the one @bloke linked i sent this too below.
Hi I have some questions about the Trophy, has the suspension ever been rebuilt? Is it Full service history and who serviced the car is it full Renault or specialist or just an independent garage? And...
Had a look at that before as it's pretty close the only thing that put me off was the Cat D. Depends what he would take might make a silly low offer an see what happens.
Took my track car to the hand car wash and let the afghans get all that horrible carbon brake dust off lol. Had the engine management light start flashing for a few min then went off. Other than that spent most of the day looking for a nice Trophy I'm considering buying one.
Another option is buy a cheaper one and spend some money having it tidied up nicely by @bloke ..... Hate looking for cars lol I'm worse than my missus clothes shopping...
Lol anyone know any decent ones with low miles and low owners for sale? I do tend to impulse buy so if I go see a nice one I would probably buy it anyone know what they're worth for a minter down to one that needs some work just a rough guide. Was going to throw a silly offer for the one on ebay...
Well I've sold my BMW as it was a diesel and I no longer commute to work far enough to justify having it (5 miles round trip lol sometimes I push bike it) and I have really enjoyed using my 172 on track although not so much on the road due to the squealing pads but that's the only thing that I...
I find with the value of some Clio's at the minute I could justify having one as a second car and keeping it for a blast when I leave the missus and baby in the house lol. We use her car for going out in anyway and carting the baby and all the stuff round in.
