Well there's a section for "must have" apps for the iPhone and iPad. I thought there should be something for Mac. (Maybe there is one, but it's not sticky'd).
I feel like I've hardly touched the surface with this Macbook so far.
But to get it started my current most used app for the Mac is...
I'll have a few more plays with it later, thanks for the advice guys. The Vista laptop isn't used much so for now I can just remove password protection when it needs to be used then add it again afterwards til I can figure this out.
I had it set to WPA2 Personal on the AE. Put in a simple password I've used before many times. I then right clicked the network on the Vista laptop changed the properties to WPA2 Personal and put the password in and it would only connect limited or local.
Really strange issue.
Okay so this is weird.
As said I can find the wireless networks I have created. (My main network and my guest network). If I connect to the guest network it either connections with limited access or local only. I just tried changing a few things in the Airport Utility. I selected the guest...
Ah. Different issue now. I downloaded the service pack and it messed up my wireless. So I reverted back to before the service pack was installed. Wireless works again and finds the networks created on AE via the MBP however I don't get a full connection on the old laptop it just goes local only...
Thanks. Do I need to connect the Windows laptop to the Mac via an ethernet cable then? And will this cable have to be connected to the both of them for me to be able to use the net on the Windows laptop?
Perhaps I'm not fully understanding what you mean then?
I was under the impression I'd have to connect to the net on the laptop with the ethernet cable going from the laptop to the AE?
(Sorry if I'm being a newb).
Thanks for the suggestions guys.
I've set up the AE for the MacBook obviously which is working great. On the Vista laptop I can find the networks and connect. It's weird though. I don't get prompted for a password and I can only get connected to 'local only' which is no good.
I've joined...
I can't get a full connection. I tend to just get local only.
I got SP1 and installed the AU on the laptop but it just says can't find any wireless devices. Silly old Windows tosh. :o
Hey guys,
Just got Airport Extreme and my net now seems to be working perfectly. Getting 19.3 MB/s speed at the moment on 20MB package so very pleased.
I need to get the old Windows laptop set up to use AE too. I need to install the Airport Utility but I can't because I need the Vista...
Thanks man. The wheels are the Trophy ones must of looked darker than they usually do!
Yeah between the weather and knowing you'd pwn me I played it safe haha.
Just checked net at mates and was fine no lagging or non loading pages.
Will still see the genius bar tomorrow as I'll be at the store anyway but I'm optimistic a good new router will have me sorted!
All I can say is wow. Epic car. Braved the rain to wind my window down to listen to that stunning noise.
Wasn't foolish enough to even try giving it the beans lol.
I may now want a Vee fair play!
Yeah you're right. I guess I'm just trying to be cheap at this precise moment. Mainly because I've just had to pay off my credit card which somehow had my Macbook, iphone and turini's all on there to be paid lol.
I need to invest in a good router though, especially as I do plenty of work at...
Yeah good point. I'm not great with how internet connections and routers work etc.. which is why it confuses me that the net is fine on old shitty Windows laptop, and dire on nice new MacBook. Surely it can't just be because the router is povert 802.11g? Haha.
I'll try nip round 2 my mates...
Lol yeah I realised after I posted. I was thinking I was just gonna rock up and ask about Airport Extreme but I may as well take the Mac in and be 100% sure it's all okay while I'm there.
/Facepalm.
Okay simple question really. I'm gonna head to the Apple store tomorrow. Should I book with the Genius bar and bring in my Macbook with relations to the problem I'm having with the net connection? ( http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?525437-Virgin-Media-broadband-and-Macs )
Not...
Think I might just pop to my local Apple store and have a word with them in there. Then get either the Airport Express or Extreme kit. Being Apple products I'd hope that they can give me solid performance with my MacBook.
I really don't know what to do now lol.
I had a look over at MacRumours and this thread might be what I'm experiencing?? http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=791280&highlight=wireless+router
Airport Extreme isn't a direct replacement for a router is it? I believe I'd need 'Virgin Modem > New router > Airport Extreme' to have have the set up you mention? I don't really wanna pay £142 for AE just yet. I should still be able to get good performance with a new N rated router right?
Yeah I agree. I'm starting to lean towards the problem being with the MacBook now. The net is fine on the Windows laptop, sometimes it's not like instant page loads but that's because it's an old laptop that in general is slow. There's no lags with the page loads though, and downloading...
One of the standard ones Virgin offered at the time. Netgear WGR614v6 as far as I can tell. (Just got into work, but I'm sure that's the one).
I'm all for investing in a better, new router, but the net is fine on both the Windows laptop and my iPhone. This morning pages wouldn't even load on...
Just Airport but I haven't tried Ethernet because of where the router and cables are located I could never use it as a connection I guess I could use it for testing.
I actually think it's easier to surf the web on my iPhone at the moment!
