I was with Tesco when I had my 172 - I thought theyd be competitive on the V6. I think they quoted me £1,200 with a huge excess. They seem to have a problem with the Vee.
172 is very civilised for a performance car, and also very practical. If the Elise is your only car I guess youd find it a pain after a while. I went 172 --> Clio V6 and thats a bit of a shock, but an Elise would be a different proposition altogether.
Well, just back from the Vees first practicality test, a weekend in Devon - 500 mile round-trip from here. Rained all weekend, but no problems for the car. Got 27 mpg, and all the luggage fitted no problem at all.

Internet brokers are another story, but you do hear some horror stories. I wouldnt want to spend that sort of money with people Id never even met. Does seem like a good time to buy at the...
