Cheers for all the advice guys, i haven't yet had chance to swap out the head unit but i have found something that might lean towards it being the head unit, this morning when going to work in my brothers phase 1 clio i played the same songs that i tried in mine to see if there was a difference...

Cheers for that mate, i do use an ipod in my car so i will try popping in a cd to see if the same songs on the ipod are as bad on a cd to see if the ipod is the source of the distortion......

Tried changing just about every setting on the head unit, it sounds like there is too much power getting to the speakers only i don't know why as it's a very basic set up with no subs or amps involved.....the radio in my bathroom sounds better quality at the moment :(

Yeah cheers Matt, i never thought it might be the head unit at fault.

I do have two other sony head units somewhere, might be worth a try i suppose :), i could even try my brothers Amp as a last resort........funny thing is i gave him my 600 watt subwoofer system as i didn't want all that extra weight in my 182!

Just an update from yesterday, took out the rear jbl speaker and isolated that speaker so sound was going to only that one, i took the speaker from the door and tried increasing the volume.......sounds terrible still, even tried changing the + and - to check phasing but no real change in sound...

Does your 172 have traction control then?.......if so does it actually do anything with all the extra power at the wheels or do you just have it turned off? By the way, you would have loved the meet last sunday ;), was a bit gutted when you said you weren't going to be able to make...

The difference between phone and internet can be amazing though, a couple of grand easy on high performance cars! but then again i wouldn't touch some of them internet companies with a barge pole, the certificate might say insured but try making a claim and they'll move heaven and earth to get...

they will always quote you more if you ring them up, it's a surcharge to pay the staff sitting behind the phones!, it's also a way of punishing people without internet access :evil:

My zorstec was way too loud to start with so i had to have a centre box put in, believe me silly loud soon gets annoying especially on the motorways :)

I found the renaultsport website heritage section really usefull when i was trying to work it all out, they even have all the production numbers and even how many RS clio's were sold with sat navs too.....not many though as it cost about an extra grand and a half!

Yeah of course:).......i can say that now i no longer drive a two and a half ton dirty diesel 300 tdi discovery.......really good for leaving idiotic tailgaters in a big black cloud of smoke though :evil:

Not sure what any of that means but i think car tax should be scrapped and added to petrol, if you use the roads more and knacker them more then you should pay more, simple!
