Mine did the same - ended up shorting out the ballast unit so I got a new ballast only for the same to happen again. I had to get a new cluster - turned out to be quite expensive!!... now the other side is doing the same!!... grrrrr
Hi Mate,
Im having the exact same problem!!!... changed them all but its still f00ked!!... did you manage to get yours sorted??..
Someone suggested to me that it could be a valve...
One thing after another with these pieces of crap!!.. :-(
Chris
Yeah it steams up then clears then mists, at present there is water sat on the lens..... Being a gas unit Id have thought they would be nearly completely sealed...
I suppose while ever there is water in there, the heat from the lamp will just keep condensing it (hence mist)...
I did...
I seem to be having a problem with my headlight letting water in!!... Looked at the rubber grommit things at the back of the unit and they are all nice and tight... has anyone else experienced this problem?

I changed my bulb originally, tried it and blew a fuse. I tracked the problem down to the headlight unit (whole thing), got a new one £200 ish from Renault, changed that still nothing so by rule of elimination it had to be the ballast however my headlight unit was corroded and in a bad way as it...
Yeah mine did the same... intermitten fault turned out to be the ballast unit.
Changed HID bulb to no avail so swapped the ballast and it worked!!!.. £270 though!!!...
Chris
Hi mate,
I swapped them around!!... turns out to be the ballast after buying a new headlight unit, new bulb... so far £220 on parts that I didnt even need!!...
what a carry on!!
Chris
Need a new ballast, does anyone know if they are a specialist renault part or if they are a standard part for other models??
Also, where is the best place to get one?
Cheers
Chris
Seems this is a common fault as mine did the same.... then completely went. Changed the bulb, still nothing - noticed I was blowing fuses so Ive had to get a new healight unit which for some stupid reason has changed thus the bulb & starter doesnt even fit!!!.... well f**ked off with it as MOT...
Hi,
Is proving a nightmare........
My Xenon headlight (the gas bulb HID) packed in so I purchased a new bulb and fitted it for the sum of £40. This didnt cure my problem so I went to work eliminating all other possibilities which finally pointed towards the unit itself as it kept blowing...
Hi people,
I have tried finding the answer to this question but there seems to be a lot of reference on this site to different bulb upgrades/varients.
I would just like to know where I can get a standard replacement headlight bulb for my 172 Mk2. Went to Halfords thinking it would be...
